Weatherstrip replacement—out of warranty. My two front doors was driving me crazy when there was a crosswind on the highway. Toyota wouldn’t replace it per TSB. I have extended warranty on truck, but apparently it doesn’t cover weatherstripping. No surprise. The dealership quoted me $175 plus tax to replace each door weatherstrip. I purchased the two front door weatherstrips from a dealer in CA. $58ea. This is the passengers side one:

    7B71FB97-9C63-4293-9C3C-0F2D30B4F03B.jpg

This job is so easy to do. Just pull the old weatherstrip off being careful to try and remove all the tape on top of door in one piece, leaving behind these clips:

    1DE9EB8B-F44C-47CC-A414-2E0A9DD21211.jpg

Just use one of these tools (I taped it with electrical tape as to not scratch the paint) to pop out the clips:

You do have to remove the 10mm bolt holding the door hinge on, so you can remove the old weatherstripping and slide over the new. There is blue loctite on this bolt. Be careful not to strip the head of the bolt as you remove it and tighten it.

On top of the door make sure it is clean before installing the new weatherstrip because the new has adhesive on the top section. I used isopropyl alcohol.

I started the install from the top corner. Put a clip in and started pulling off the back of the tape adhesive going towards the front one clip at a time. This is the replacement weatherstrip from TSB. It is thicker than original. Now the door shuts solid. In fact you have to close it a little harder than before. We shall see if it fixed my problem.....just have to wait for a good crosswind.

July 9th Update: Had a good crosswind Yesterday and front doors were quiet. Will keep monitoring it.

Finally got my TPAM from Expedition Essentials installed. Their instruction manual and video gloss over some things, but if you are somewhat competent it is fairly easy.

Did the AC drain mod, used some Meguiars scratch X2.0 to clean up a few minor scratches and went back to the factory grill. Plasti dipped the chrome surround and painted the emblem. Originally thought the emblem was a little too bright red but I don't think it looks too bad against the black and pyrite mica.

2008 Access Cab 4X4, 116k miles. (purchased 2 weeks ago) I got to the front differential today, did the transfer and rear dif last week. I'm luckeir than others, the plugs had clean holes and came out without much trouble. A couple of Kroil treatments may or may not have helped. I replaced the drain plug with the Lexus plug. Bought one for the fill plug but they aren't the same. The front oil was much dirtier than the rear.

I think Toyota has two to many engineers; the one the used hex nuts on the differential, the other being the one who designed the transmission without a dipstick. It's ridiculous, could have used them both in quality working on the frame rust :annoyed:

Thanks, can't take credit though. That's what they recommended! It's genius too. $10 in buckets and tape, filled the void with rags, and they're solid as ever.
