Yes. How did you put an eye-bolt lock on that style clamp? Did you enlarge the hole with an angle grinder or something? Also, where in CO did you source your can because my source doesn't have that size. Lastly, did you use Unistrut nuts to thread those bolts into and if so, which size? Thanks!

Ill post a picture of the finished product this evening. Used Unistrut nuts with a 1/2 inch x 1 inch bolt. I got the saw box from the army surplus store on Pecos. $24 bucks

I was able to drill two holes on top and bottom of the one already in the latch, then file it to make one hole for the eye bolt to go through, its not pretty but it works. angle grinder to cut out the middle section would have been better, but i dont have one so the file had to do. its a great mod for sure!!!!!!

Yeah, I think Jensen Arms has some decent price on cans but I'm waiting for them to get some more in. I was planning to use my angle grinder to enlarge the holes to accept an eye bolt so that's why I was asking. I'm going to check out the 'superstrut mounts' at Home Depot to see if they have a size that will work because they're cheap and I can pick them up tomorrow. Do you remember what size unistrut you used? I searched around this forum and can't seem to find a definitive answer to that question. I planned to drive down to HD and try the different sizes but if I have a known measurement it would save a few trips in and out of the store. I think I'm going to do two in the corners painted black with combination locks and then possibly one further back in the bed as a first aid kit painted white with a red cross. (stealing the idea from someone else I saw on here:cool:)

here are images of the finished product. I wanna say they are 1/2 inch super strut or unistrut nuts with a 1/2 inch X 1 inch hex bolt. You have to break off the spring on these big ones to get them in the channel, and i also had to remove the torque bolt on the front of the channel to slide the unistrut nut in. You might be able to angle them in the channel but im not sure.

@ piercedtiger, yeah they were a little pricey for sure but its a bigger box then the .50 cal, this box is for the 5.56mm rounds and has a bunch more storage capacity then the .50 cal box. I totally agree that its a rip off though!!!

I test fit the replacement for the garage door opener door. It fit like a glove. I will be making different inserts for that opening so that I can put an LCD screen, or more switches, or more gaugesIMAG0571.jpg.

Ostrichsak, I think people have also been going to Fastenal and getting thier t nuts. If you have one around, that might be another option for you. I had bought the clamps for a camper shell a while back and since it didnt actually fit the truck, I used the t-nuts(cheap aluminum crap, but hey....) that came with the clamps since I am not using them. Worked fine. I almost screwed up and drilled my hole too far back on the side. I tried to drill them as far apart as possible and didnt think about the rail not going all the way to the corner, so half my t nut is sticking out the back of the rail.

I'm interested in seeing how the lock works on these things. I installed my can a few days ago. I think we can get these boxes for about $10 around here at pawn shops and stuff.

Edit: Guess I was late with that....

Like the lock. I'll have to do that.

I did the same thing on my first ammo box. Ha ha ha that darn C channel should be just a tad bit longer, or I should be a tad bit wiser!!!! The t nuts work wonders, I have about 50 of these unistrut nuts at my work and lucky me they don't need em!!!

Is that a rubber washer on yours? I put a few washers on the outside and one on the inside, so it sandwiched the box and didnt put it in a bind pulling into the bed rail. I didnt do anything to seal it though. I may take it back off and put some rubber between the washers and box later though, if I see it collect any moisture. My bolts were actually allen bolts that are round, so they are not quite as bulky and wont catch my hand and stuff as bad.

I guess I need to get some new t nuts and sell the clamps since I wont ever use them.....

Gotcha. I couldn't tell from the pic, but it wouldn't surprise me anyway. I've seen the 50's online for $20, or $15 with another $15 for shipping. And that's why my buddy grabbed 7 of them when he found out they were $6 at that place. lol

Cheaper than dirt has the big cans for $12 plus shipping. For one can to my house is about $16, but for 5 cans it is only $22. Might be worth it if you buy multiple.
