What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I'm always kind of doing a best estimate on my measurements. Using a tape measure, holding with the left hand at the hub and kind of wobbling. Took a solo cup, cut off the ring so it fits snug right in the XD hub. Put a slit in the bottom, end of tape stays fixed, and I can easily read the distance for comparing. The tire stays out of the way entirely.

Just put in a 2013 lower dash into my 2005 this morning. Still waiting on an "OEM-like" usb/aux to work with my new head unit. Then to figure out what other switches to go in!


And also did the Grid-It organizer like a bunch of other people.

 

that's one way to get an accurate measurement. and I agree that it's always a bit difficult to try and get it center hub without it bending around the tire and skewing the results. Neat little hack.

 

Fighting with some bro lean, I decided to add some Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags. There were multiple options available, but this approach was best for me. Before and after pics.

 

I kind of got to that point and it's less fun because I look forward to that stuff. Getting new tires next fall so that'll be the next thing. Will get some different wheels then too.

 

people don't usually go with firestone air bags but their ability to adjust is where they beat the other options. You can tow or haul different loads/weight and adjust as needed so your ride and height will always be where you want it to be. Beats having stiff leaf springs on all the time jarring your teeth loose lol Looks good!

 

I measure the actual wheel diameter (lip-lip) then divide by 2, then take measurement from the bottom lip of the wheel-fender, then minus the first result.

Ordered it. But its coming from China so it's gonna be a while. Couldn't hold off any longer not putting the dash in. I just couldn't figure out how to get the stock usb/aux from the 2013 to work with my stereo. $10 isn't much for a quick plug and play, even if it takes weeks.

 

Looks great. Can these be used strictly for lift? Hows the ride?

 

The air bags are essentially bump stops that sit on top of your leaf springs. I actually find the ride more comfortable, but a little bouncy at times. The fact they are adjustable sold me. My bed weight varies depending on the project at hand.

 

I forgot that I bought one of those almost 2 years ago.

What did you use to secure it?

 

I had mine for almost a year… Used 2 - 2" wide velcro strips the length of the grid-it. Some have had issues with the velcro, only time will tell for me.

 

What size is that? I like that.

 

That looks amazing, i'm 100% doing it. to the casing around my head unit as well. What kind of paint did you use? Multiple coats?

 

I should have revisited the Grid-it thread before I installed. I lost one elastic web when making the notches for the hinges, I tried to stay outside of the seam when removing the material but it wasn't enough. Had I check the thread I would have done it this way.

BTW I used a razor blade clamped in a visegrip heated over torch, melts right thru.

 

Anybody know where to find a dash head unit surround and shifter panel? I'd like to get another to paint so i can keep the original just in case.
