Been thinking of this change while I was in Japan, to do when I got back. Going to hit up the audio shop and have an amplifier installed and replace the 6x9 kickers in the front doors with Focals. See if I can rock this joint just a little more.

I think some people were just intended to be first, time and time again. Oddly, I’m also one of those. 2 roll roll overs (DUI), 3 head ons, and 2 motorcycle.. likely forgetting one or two.. You never think about what you are going to see, you just go.. strange shit indeed!

I hope I can help if I am ever "first on scene". But either I have just given up and become more callous or I have just learned life is not fair ... I will try but probably be un-surprised if my efforts go for naught. Still, I will try to help ...

You should make a separate post showing what you keep in your first aid kit. I'm sure others would be interested in doing something similar. ;)

Nice job, just a heads up I have the same cover, i suggest you write to the company and get a few extra plastic pieces sent to you they do tend to break every so often, the pieces I am speaking of are on the corners of the cover where they are half round, if you just tell them one broke, and if you could get a set, they will send them to you for free, i have 3 extra sets, as i have broken one side one month and the other the next month.

I have semi-finalized one of my Tacoma projects: Install a house battery and separate electrics - running stock electrics on the starter battery and additional electrics on the house battery.

A lot of research and ordering parts, partially good info from TW also. And my special thanks goes out to Amazon.com

Final setup: Moved stock battery to rear left of engine compartment (seen from front), install more powerful battery as starter battery (780CCA), run the electric from starter battery via 100A fuse, smart battery isolator (starts charging the house battery when starter battery has 13.3+ V), and 100A fuse to house battery. Run electricity from house battery via 100A switch and CB to additional fuse box.

    Parts:

    · Interstate M78DT battery (fits in stock battery tray, just 1 inch less in height)

    · Battery tray for house battery (Battery Hold Down Tray Kit, Corrosion-Resistant Steel Storage Battery Holder Adjustable Bracket Clamp for Car, Boat, Marine (23cm Bolt with 28cm Battery Tray))

    · 2 100A InstallGear fuse carriers with 100A fuse (protect starter battery to smart battery isolator and from smart battery isolator to house battery)
(InstallGear 0/2/4 Gauge ANL Fuse Holder + 150 Amp ANL Fuses (2 Pack) | for 0 Gauge, 4 Gauge, 8 Gauge, 10 Gauge Terminals| 150 Amp Fuse Block, Fuse Box, Automotive Fuse Block)

    · Smart battery isolator 12V 140A (charge house battery after starter battery is fully charged) (Jtron 12V 140 Amp Dual Battery Smart Isolator Kit- VSR - Voltage Sensitive Relay Battery Automatic Charging Relay for Car, Vehicle, RV, ATV, UTV and Boat)

    · Fuse box by OE with 100A switch/circuit breaker (protect line from house battery to additional electric)

    · Noco genius 2.0 (starter battery maintenance)

    · Terminal clamps (for house battery) COROTC Battery Terminals, 0/4/8/10 Gauge AWG Positive Negative Battery Terminal Connectors, with 2 Clear Covers and Shims,Auto Car Audio Marine Boat ModificationCOROTC Battery Terminals, 0/4/8/10 Ga…

    · Heatshield (Toyota Yaris – big enough and OEM part) (to protect the house battery from exhaust heat)

    · Aluminum sheet metal (for 2 100A fuses and smart battery isolator)

    · Bunch of 4gauge and 6gauge cables with connectors (and crimp tool if you don’t have yet)

    · Heat shrink for wiring, wiring tape, wiring protector (protect from heat and mechanical damage)

    · Zip ties, Various screws, washers, nuts.

Need to get yet: battery hold down kit fitting the smaller Interstate M78TD battery.

Need to finalize: shorten some cables, extend heat shield a tad more up, install battery hold down kit starter battery (should be no more than 45mins).

    Install steps

Step 1: disconnect and remove starter battery

Step 2: relocate Denso horn from rear left to front (run cable extension, saw off the hook of the mounting plate).

Step 3: install the battery tray for the house battery – cut studs to correct length not to damage the battery, grind the air filter housing tabs a bit down.

Step 4: step on the heat shield to flatten it out and model it to fit around the OEM stock battery (which will be the house battery now).

Step 5: Finagle the sheet metal to be mounted to the chassis and to hold the two 100A fuses and the smart battery isolator.

Step 6: run cables as needed, crimp the connectors as needed – insulate with heat shrink and run through protectors. Make sure grounds are making good contact to chassis. Install terminal clamps for the house battery.

Step 7: install OE fuse box. Add Noco.

Step 8: open plastic box the alternator cable is running through, cut out a notch to run the alternator cable a bit fwd of the normal box exit. Necessary because even though the M78DT is same size, the terminals are more in the center of the battery than with the stock battery. Alternatively, you can extend the alternator cable.

Step 9: connect all cables, the neg of the batteries last.

It is not too time intensive to install. Research and ordering the right parts took very long.

Super clean setup. Nice job. What are you planning on running on the house battery?

These 3rd gens are really pieces of shit. I just replaced damn near all the pulleys, belt tensioner, alternator and water pump with a brand new belt not even 6 months ago and something is squealing again. So fed up with this truck should of kept my 2nd gen.
