Do know which dongle you have, and I wonder how much it matters. I downloaded the app. It was free to download but my guess is there is a fee somewhere?????? when you go to use it????

Also, I wonder if a Toyota Tacoma dongle would fit a Lexus es300h ??????? I want to do them both!

Mine has a ELM 327 chip in it. I bought it from newegg.com (they changed a lot since, just get one from Amazon) for $14. That particular one was verified to work with the Torque app, which is why I bought it.

All OBD dongles are universal. I believe (you'd want to check) that ELM 327 chips speak all the OBD languages. I've used in it on our saab, volvo, subaru, and now the Taco. I keep meaning to test it on my Ducati, which uses the same language as audi.

The Carista app is free. You pay when you want to use the customization functions. Either $10 for a week's access or one week free when you subscribe for a year. Careful there because the subscription automatically bills exactly one week after you start. I made that mistake. And, the subscription is not canceled from the app, but from the app store. Grrrr!

I plan on doing just this. Last part of my sound proofing project. Already did the floor, back wall, roof, and doors. Might as well finish it off with the tailgate. That noico soundproofing is no joke. Great buy!

Eh, it's pretty much ready to install a few hours after painting it. I used the Ditzler Hot Rod Black Kit from PPG because my OCD won't let me "rattle can" anything! I can't stand to see people "derping" or "plastidipping" shit all over the place. I realize that most people don't have experience with real automotive paint, but if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right!

Curious to see if you notice any cabin noise difference by adding the sound deadening. I'm inclined to swap out my door speakers just to do that. I'm hearing more road noise than on my 2nd gen.

I did similiar, the majority of the cabin noise is really from the back wall. The biggest change I had was from CLD tiles, Foam, and MLV back there. Also siliconed around the vents as they are loose as all getout and you can see daylight if you wiggle them around. Also stuck some acoustic foam over the vents, held in place by MLV (still allows vent to function).

CLD tiles around the doors like the above poster will control noise to a very limited extent, but only because it reduces vibrations (mostly in spectrums you can't hear well anyways). Great for the stereo though, especially to increase midbass

I agree that anything that is worth doing, is worth doing right the first time ;) As for the derping method, I think to each their own. Some people don’t have the money to splurge on the higher end products at that time and just need a temporary fix. Some higher end products, they are just higher end because of the name. The less expensive ones work just as well. Some plastidipping turns out amazing and it looks amazing for years. I think to each their own on that one. I used automotive paint on my skid plate to match my Barcelona Reds and it’s amazing and is really holding up nicely. However, I did the quick fix with my chrome end caps because at the time I didn’t have the money to splurge on the OEM Black End Caps. I also dipped my engine bay items and they are absolutely amazing. Both options worked great for me tho. I’m happy you are happy with all the work you have and will be putting into this mount. That’s what it’s all about and all that matters.

I'm guessing he didn't put it on the inside of the outer door panels, so it probably won't make a huge difference. Also, without the access holes cut out, that shit gonna collect dust like a mofo on that section of sound deadening. What if you need to get in there to fix a window regulator or something? Uhhhh...

This is the one I got and yeah I paid the 10 for the pro version to customize but after that realized the app didn’t do as much other stuff as some others so I canceled my subscription through iTunes also

Yes. Carista is great for the one time changes. Otherwise, Torque or OBD Fusion are great for monitoring, codes, and resets.

They must have changed the purchase price. I think I got it first part of 2016 the app was $20 for lifetime of use and I did get the Carista dongle, just because at the time some people were having connectivity problems with other Bluetooth dongles. The full version is pretty much worth it I think. A lot more options available. Too many screens to post again. I think I posted all the screen shots with available changes sometime ago.

The current price for the dongle on Amazon is $39.
I think it was worth it considering a dealership is probably going to charge you $100 or more. And they usually refuse to turn off the seat belt chime.
If you live in SoCal in the OC area be happy to meet up and you can use mine. Might cost you a beer.

Yes. I didn't feel too bad about the subscription mistake because of the costs at the dealership, or the possible frustrations if they refused to do something like turning off the seat belt chimes.

Haven’t tried Torque not sure if it’s IOS compatible that’s why I had to get the WiFi vs the Bluetooth scanner tool. I like fusion and I’m liking this RealDash that has a ton of features

That looks cool. I don't have an iOS experience though.
