I have seen this referred to several times BUT what is it and how much does it cost to use? Is there some modification that I need to know or do?

Just go to Carista’s website to read about it. Can normally buy on Amazon for $40-50 and there are no mods required. You just connect it to the ObD2 port that’s under your steering column above your hood latch in the cab.

It connecta via Bluetooth to your phone. The carista app does have a small subscription you have to activate in order to customize the truck (lights, dings, locks, blinkers, etc.,). You can also hook up an app (Torque on Android, OBD Fusion on iPhone) that will allow you to do logs and love readings of everything you can imagine from lambda to fuel trims to trans temps.

You don't need the dongle sold by Carista for it to work. It works with the BT dongle that I already had. Also, the Carista site says that it doesn't support customizing on the Taco. That is not correct as we can.

Also, you can get a week free by choosing the $40 plan and unsubscribing before the week is up.

There are a few Carista threads on TW. Just search titles for Carista.

    Well crap!

Be careful if you sign up for the free week on the subscription plan. The email that I got from google play simply said that the trial will end on October 20th. Well, it ended exactly at the time that I subscribed for the free week, 6.04p. Also to cancel, you do not do it through the app, you have to do it through your google play account. This bit of info was buried in the Help file.

Sooooo, if anyone doesn't have a BT adapter and would like to make changes with the Carista app, please let me know. I am in Lynnwood, WA. Anything local in the next year is good for me.

    Have a good one.

So it's kind of like a one shot deal ?
You pay your $40 clams, make the few changes you want and that's that ?

Cancel your subscription and the changes you made are changed for good ?

Do they revert back to default if you say.... disconnect the battery ?

I'd like to increase the numbers of blinks on the lane change. Three ain't enough.

Guy in service at the dealership was adamant that it can't be changed, then told me I could change it through entune. Idiots.
Doesn't anyone care or take pride in knowing all there is to know about their job.... even a little bit ?

Argh just tried the carista app with my Bluetooth obd2 and no dice. Kept saying it was faulty and won't work. Works great with torque etc... And every other app!

Yeah that won’t work. Carista needs to have the carista obd2 reader. The carista obd reader should work with torque though. It works on my iPhone with obd fusion

You pay for the obd reader, then there are a few mods you can do that are free with the app but the good ones cost money. You can pay for a week or 10 days to do unlimited modifications, then you’re back to the free stuff. But the mods you make during that week stay with the vehicle, even if you unplug your battery.

Gotta ask then why does carista give you the option to use adapters other than the carista sold one :)

First option when you load the app. Clowns...

Hey I didn’t know this! Maybe they changed it since I had it.

    From the website:

You may choose between our official Carista OBD2 adapter, a Kiwi 3 adapter, or a generic ELM327 adapter. If you use a generic one, make sure it conforms to ELM327 v1.4 or newer and that it uses WiFi for iOS or Bluetooth or WiFi for Android.

    Is your obd device compatible?

Ha more than likely it is not if it keeps puking on customization. Eh no worries... Maybe go with techstream or a better scanner.

This was an Amazon bargain a while ago so generic knockoff I would imagine.

Thanks for the heads up. And @dYL0n your build is awesome.

Techstream is the way to go! I wish I got it sooner

    Thanks man!
