i just did that a bit ago. Its not super fun, but not too bad either if you drop the spare tire and crawl under there.

SPCs aren't too bad, but the shop might not like those either..

Sounds like it's maybe crab walking.

It looks decent. Nothing obvious. I brought it into a frame shop and they said come back when it had a new axle haha

Is that what it's called? I had my brother drive it while I drove his vehicle behind and it didn't pull right or left, but it looks like the truck is slightly diagonal to the driving path. Steering wheel was at like the 2 o'clock position, but after the work I did, it sits more at about the 1230-1 o'clock

yep. Crab walking. So your rear axle is tweaked so the passenger side is further back than the driver side. As in, its not perpendicular to the frame which makes the rear "steer". So you compensate by turning.

That’s a good point, if the throttle plate is worn enough it could be getting air bypass. Wouldn’t think that’s enough to cause his high idle but maybe it’s that bad.

his rear axle should be good. its not the one that was in the wreck. frame still might be tweaked.

yeah thats what I mean. the frame is crooked so the axle isn't perpendicular to the frame.

twisted leafs might be an issue too.. i cant measure the frame. but i can toss it on the alignment rack and at least get numbers to give him

The axle housing is the same distance to the front spring hanger bolt on each side. I also measured from the frame to the tire sidewall and it's only 1/8" farther to the driver's side now, rather than the 1" that it was before I did the work.

In my case it ended up being worn out butterfly return springs. I guess the spring couldn’t overcome the force of air being drawn through intake tube. I only would get a high idle issue after the gas pedal had been used — idle was great at initial startup every time. I will admit though there is also some wear from butterfly contacting TB as well (270k miles)…. Maxbore upon motor rebuild.

Sounds like his best bet is to have maxbore go through and R&R the whole TB, given all these potential causes. To @Digiratus ‘s point though, he’ll need to have a known good IAC for maxbore to test it and ensure functionality.

I cut it in half with a razor blade. Then plugged it in to the new piece. Easy fast and has been working for years
