Is there a difference in the coils from v6 to 4cyl?

 

Only the 1st setup (two 8s) were installed by shop, bud. And that was due to me not wanting to deal with sound-proofing and sealing the storage area under pass. side back seat!

If I had time, I would... working full-time + over time at job, and a full time paramedic student keeps me pretty tied up. Only a year and a half left, tho!

 

Tried to order the AFE Pro-Dry air filter.. autoanything.com is giving me grief about shipping to APO address now.

In related news, if I can get that filter shipped to me, I'll have a K&N available for anyone who doesn't mind paying shipping. (1999 2.7L)

 

So to fit a 33" (well, 32.8") tire on a 1st Gen would I just need to cut these brackets, or is that what people usually do for 285s?

I just want to clarify before I go sawing away

 

Just take the whole bracket off completely and mount the tire elsewhere to save the clearance under the bed! trust me, its worth it and also makes working on the truck a lot easier down the road instead of hving to drop the spare to get under there!

Yes just bend em straight or chop em off. Just be sure the edges aren't sharp so it doesn't cut your spare.

I agree with this tho ^^

If you wheel at all and end up needing your spare, getting down in the dirt or mud to get your spare down is a pain. Plus usually when you need your spare you dont tend to be on flat ground in the best position possible

 

Oh I definitely agree it's 10x better working under there with no spare but it's just as easy to drop it. Plus until I can mount a tire on my rear (plate) bumper in the future, this'll have to do.

Am I on the right track? Is this what works for other guys?

 

Also, do you NEED washers for your u-bolts to ensure they don't loosen with time/to distribute the stress better???

I have my 33" spare under there with just the pulley system holding it - it's tight and works fine.

 

before you go cutting, I would have your VIN checked at the dealership for a replacement pulley. They were recently recalled.

Might not replace it if they see you've been "tampering" with the original system.

In case anyone was wondering, autoanything.com was completely unwilling to work with me on shipping my air filter. This was after I had already been charged for the item. Not impressed with their customer service.
