No it's totally possible. Both Igor and Frank are tweaked.

 

Yeah I suppose you're right about seeing any failures. I do see how the stress would increase at that point when adding a swing out, though. I would hate to get stress fractures there.

 

Nope Frank is not reinforced. Nor is Igor.

Igor you can clearly see the gap between the bed and the cab isn't right. It's wider at the top by quarter inch.

Swingout doesn't help but it's really just a weight thing and a romp thing.

 

Doesn't help in igors case that I don't have much up travel.

But yeah most likely.

 

July 4, 2019.

Our trip to SE Idaho complete, we started heading towards home. Of course, we'd never make it - a stop at Ben and Kirsten's being our jumping off point for another several-day adventure in their home state.

......We didn't pause long at any given site however - trucks pulling trailers and boats headed both ways along the road, prompting us to continue on. In fact, as had been true most of the day, there was so much traffic that Ben and Mikey didn't even stop as we passed what was perhaps the epitome of the #insta-overlanding boom that we find ourselves in these days - I mean, you can't get much more over-land than an airplane, can you? LOL.

I don't think you're going to see catastrophic failures. Is a tweaked frame considered a failure? I've been in instance's where I needed to remove something from the bed but things were flexed enough that I couldn't open the tailgate. The plates or boxing should help with that some. I'm pretty sure my frames is bent right at the breakover point. This is part of the factory box portion and becomes the fulcrum. With the motor up front and a heavy bed the truck will want to bend in half. Surprised more people haven't experienced this with there heavy swingouts placing more leverage back there.

Called Tepui to source my missing hardware. Paid to get it overnighted, while I’m only an hour and a half drive from Tepui in Santa Cruz you have to go on this horrible winding mountain road called Highway 17 to get there which I refuse to go on again haha.

 

I don’t mind the road, it’s just the dumb people who decide to take it, go too fast, and cut you off. I went during the wildfires once and I couldn’t see 10 feet in front me from all the smoke.

 

Now go on a road like that but instead of smoke it’s snow, that’s fun.

 

We called it "Suicide 17" back in the El Nino of 82-83. Downed trees, mud slides and everyone in a hurry.

There’s a lot of wrecks and stuff on that road in the winter, Sardine Canyon Going to Logan was pretty neat once this winter.

I usually go through Wyoming when I go home.

Camped and wheeled with @avw4x4 and @Rockbaron1 for a week in NH exploring class 6 roads and a visit to Mt. Washington. Videos and edited pics to come eventually.

How did the radiator end up having a lil run in with the fan?

 

I 80 is the infamous one.

I90 in MT is no joke either in the winter on the west side.

 

We still have no idea how it happened, it was protected by a skid, current theory is it was rusted enough to develop weakness enough to pretzel itself. Backing a truck down a trail in 2wd enough to turn around was interesting.

Yup, I want to go back and hike it with my wife now. And we think the one blade snapped at one of the many water crossings we did. We were able to fix the hole with jb weld and water weld. We had a lot of damage on this trip. @avw4x4 had a flat tire and twisted front drive shaft. I had my window switches stop working (we think water got in the window motor and shorted it, I found a burned pin and burnt plastic that I was able to clean off and get working again) and blew my PS pump, and @Rockbaron1 had the fan blade snap, which we didn't know damaged the radiator till he swapped the fan, and also busted a tail light/large chunk of bedside.
