Not so much what I did to the trailer but I added a scangauge to get accurate transmission temps. I found 2 PIDs to program for trans temp on 3rd gen tacoma. One reads slightly warmer. Does anyone know where the temps are monitored? I was thinking the warmer may be the torque converter? 20170303_160227.jpg 20170303_150251.jpgAlso hoping to install a Derale 13960 remote cooler before camping season starts this year.

Have you compared trans temps while towing vs. not yet?

No haven't had a chance to do any towing yet. Yesterday I got it to 188 just driving around but I was hammering it pretty good looking at the horsepower and max engine loading gauges:cookiemonster:. Today it only ever got up to 160 on a short drive to home depot.

I'm still planning on running a bigger stacked plate cooler inline with OEM plate and fin cooler for the sake of overkill. I'm thinking of mounting it to the core support behind the bumper. Hopefully that would keep it out of direct airflow preventing over cooling and keep direct airflow over the radiator. The unit I'm looking at has a 500cfm fan to provide the extra cooling when needed. I haven't found squat for info on doing it to a TURD gen so unless somebody post a walkthrough by next month I'll be the guinea pig:oops:

LP kits are nice for generators, have the same USCarb kit on a Yamaha 2000, had them on Honda's also.

So much easier to carry extra LP bottles than gas cans. The caveat is LP doesn't have the same energy per gallon as gasoline. You can still use gas if you want to with those kits.

I need to get that Flipjack.

My wife and I looked at that exact trailer, that's a lot of trailer crammed into such a small package! We are leaning towards the Hummingbird w/ the Baja Package(I just posted a thread about such) How does your rear suspension handle the load? I'd like to upgrade for off road towing, just not sure which direction to go.
    Thanks

You definatley can't go wrong with either of those trailers. We looked hard at both as well. The hummingbird looked a little more well made but we ended up going with the 195rb because the rounded ends on the hummingbird felt a little cramped and the 195 was a little cheaper as well.

As far as suspension I run Icons with firestone ride rite airbags and daystar airbag cradles. The Icons ride very nice offroad and the airbags allow me to tow the trailer 100 percent level and very steady. When I don't need the airbags the daystar cradles let the airbags float and stay out of the way. A decent WDH and sway bar will also help keep things straight while towing on the highway but it's usually a good idea to take the tension off the load bars when on uneven terrain.

Here's a couple pics of the airbag cradles in action.

Thank you! Luckily we haven't had any issue with ours yet but I've heard about similar defects with allot of TT manufacturers. I think it's just the nature of the beast when trying to keep things light weight. I do have a couple friends with Jayco travel trailers and toy haulers and Jayco has been very good about getting warranty issues resolved. Keep us posted your situation. Best of luck!

Might want to take a look at this thread...seems like Icon revised their install instructions and it may end up voiding your warranty https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/icon-leaking-resi-warning.483316/

Not today but this weekend I purchased two new batteries for my trailer because some meth-head decided they needed my existing batteries for scrap so they could get a fix

Damn that's terrible customer service for a high end shock like Icon. Luckily mine are in great condition without problems. Also why I'd pull them off the truck before sending pics to Icon. Less info is always better with this kind of crap. Hopefully somebody tells Icon to eat a big bag of d!cks!

Good thread - I'll jump in the water. We just recently bought a Keystone Passport 153ML. My Wife and I travel all over the SE riding our MTBs and have just gotten tired of tent camping and the cleanup. We looked hard, and almost pulled the trigger on a Jayco Hummingbird Baja, but just wanted a little bit more room inside. Our dealer called us with a new model arrival from Keystone- the Passport 153ML.

The Passport is 3100lbs dry with a max weight of 4500lbs - well within the limits of our 16 Taco's 6100lb capacity. The camper is a single axle with a dinette slide, dry bath and some nice features for the price. We setup with a P3 brake controller and a Curt weight/sway system. We also added an electric tongue jack as this camper has pretty high ground clearance and it would take forever to manually run that tongue jack down. As for camper mods, I installed a Curt adjustable width RV receiver to the frame so that I can easily carry my mountain bikes. I also cut the 30a/125v umbilical cord and replaced it with a Furrion plug in setup. Overall the camper has been great thus far. The taco pulls it well in hilly North GA.

Some pics... getting the weight/sway setup and picking up from the dealership. The rest are just some pics of our first trip to Cloudland Canyon.

ah ...ballistic bear spray, we have the same problem with bears here in montana. i like your set up, i need to look in that direction! i always have my glock .40 with multiple 13 rnd mags and of course the old ruger .44 super redhawk is always around while in yogi's backyard. haven't had to use them yet, but have had bears come into our camp site ...this can sometimes lead to soiled under garments, irregular heart beat and rapid breathing especially when there is only a 5mil piece of nylon between you and yogi! this is how our trailer idea came into being.

thanks lord humongous for the info, i like your set up a lot, it definitely gives much to consider. i've not considered the radiator addition. i may have to, i'm towing at 3500' and up in elevation here in the rocky mountains.
    let the fun begin!

the tent thing and cleanup are a few of the same reasons my wife and i are going the trailer route in addition to the bear issue we have to deal with.
i'm curious how keystone arrived at 4500lb loaded weight though? most, if not all "single axle light weight camping trailers and/or cargo trailers, i've researched and own" have a single axle with a 3500lb max load(that's including the trailer itself) and the most of the tires "i've seen" on the light weight trailers are "garbage", can't handle that kind of weight and should be replaced or upgraded.
    keystone may be "s t r e t c h i n g" the limit ...just a little? unless they have some proprietary magic 4500lb max load axle made just for them:confused:
i don't have a keystone dealer near me to check them out in person so i have to question the numbers they quote, when it sounds to good to be true ...yada yada yada

I've also been doing some experimenting with pinning the thermostat open and have kept my transmission pan temps in the 160s while towing.

That is awesome! I might buy that for my small enclosed mowing trailer. I need a concrete block, or I can barely get it off my stock height Taco.

Did a little trailer project today. Unfortunatly our RV parking area doesn't have sewer cleanouts so we haven't been able to dump Blackwater at home. I ordered a couple of ABS to RV sewer adapters and a 10' flexible RV sewer extension on Amazon. I also picked up 30' of 3" ABS with male/female threaded adapters from home depot. I glued it all together and voila, a easy to break down black/gray water extension setup for home use.

Where do you run the line to dump it? I've had to dump at home on a couple occasions and I have to carry a pair of 7 gallon buckets into the house to dump in the toilet...it's not fun.
