im looking at a pretty clean 2004 dc 3.4 4x4 sr5 trd. Guy is asking 13.9k but that seems really high to me. It has a great carfax service history and looks new underneath. Currently has 164k. Has slight interior wear probably normal for age. I'm looking to catch a flight for it tomorrow.

if it's in great condition, this is what these trucks go for. Double cabs are a different game. They fetch much more than xtracabs or regular cabs. If it looks like new underneath, that's good, but be careful if it was painted or sprayed to hide rust. These trucks are are infamous for rusty and rotten frames. The most affected are from cold weather areas, where they put salt and chemicals on roads during winter

Of course, if it is from a southern area, it is much less likely to suffer from frame rust. But still, there have been cases of southern trucks with bad frame rust due to higher humidity levels or salt water.

Thanks for that info. The truck is in Orlando area. The guy told me the paint shows wear and scratches and small dents like expected I guess. I was going to offer 12k but he may laugh me away from what you are saying.
Nada retail is 14.5 in clean cond. kbb is 10k I figured 12 would be in the middle.

It also seems to have the full manual transfer case.

Before you fly out there, please work out the price. He or she won't negotiate if you flew out there. Their expecting asking price when you show up. Unless you happen to be in the neighborhood...

That's my plan and why I'm asking what is a fair price. These are so hard to put a value on because apparently book value means little to nothing

Last month I was offered 16K for my D Cab. The prices are crazy for first gen D cabs.

Wow! How many miles? I'm sure yours is flawless.

So you think 12-12.5 is fair for both parties? I'm going to call him in a few hours to square it away.

Manual transfer case as in the J shift? Not the push button? I get offers placed on my windshield or just from people talking to me about my truck that are anywhere from $7,500 - $9,800 for my 04 3.4 DC 4x4. But I have a lot more miles. 258,744. It was built in CA, but spent 2 years in SC and in 2006 it ended up back out in CA. It's far from stock though. Some people pay more for stock than modified trucks. And others, vice versa.

I paid $11,500 for mine last year, bought in Washington. For reference mine had roughly 145K miles, majority of maintenance was up to speed with documentation, and the only thing really needing addressed was new tires. This is how I bought it...

Thanks for all the examples! Well we settled on 12.5 with the bed cover. I will post up when I have it in possession.

That truck looks great! I'm not familiar with the J shift but there is no button on the transfer case. It's manually shifted into 4wd.

Yep. That's the J shift. Where you pull up on it manually by hand.

Is that inferior to the electronic shift?

I have the other one, you press the 4wd button on the 4x4 lever to engage 4hi and then shift it into 4lo manually when you want to go into 4lo. Both are fine, some people prefer the all manual j-shifter because it's one less electronic component to have to worry about failing someday.
