What is coil bind?

    as the title states im curious what people are referring to when they talk about coil bind and what causes it. Thanks for your response

    Coil Bind is when the coil cannot compress anymore and is pretty much in its complete compressed length. Sometimes depending on the scenario with springs and shock and how much preload. I have come close to coilbind on some trucks. Its the danger when your coil compresses before your shock can fully compress and all the bottoming load goes on the shock and its mounting points.

    Does this cause a popping noise? I’ve had a pop from the front when going over humps or taking sharp curves and the suspension compresses. Almost sounds like a sway bar bushing pop but I no longer have a sway bar so can’t be that.

    Reserected from the dead.
    Check to make sure you do not have a broke spring. I had to pull the wheel to see the broken front spring.

    No broken springs. They are old oem springs on bilstein 5100s though. I have a set of OME 883s I’m going to swap on once this rain clears out. Hopefully that will fix this pop. I’ve already replaced lower control arm bushings, put spc upper control arms on, and replaced lower ball joints with oem.

    Yea that’s why I thought maybe coil binding. Guess the search continues.

    Your issue may be the tire hitting the upper control arm. Dose it do it with the wheels straight and turned? Look for witness marks on the upper control arm and the tire. Also check the bump stop.

    No contact on upper control arms. I did have contact on knuckle to coil but I have SPC control arms now so no problem there anywhere.
