You paid for it and the deed already happened. You're not saving anything. What is replacing it going to solve other than wasting a brand new item leading to more trash?

It would be offensive or disturbing to me I imagine, but I'm still in the planning stage. Not sure what exactly I will do. But sounds like SR model might be ok.

I would like to remind everyone of the TW Code of Conduct. Specifically the first sentence.

That’s because Leather outlasts, is tougher and more resilient than just about any of the man made crap designed to replace it. So, do we add our fake leather and PC trash into the landfills while we’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint? Sounds to me like a conundrum.

Well I'm not sure how much I can speak about it on this thread since it is auto related. Might be a good topic for a thread in the off topic forum. But if I may reply briefly, yes, how it's obtained causes suffering, which is disturbing to the animals that have to go through it, and disturbing to me because injustice done to them bothers me.

A friend of mine is Vegan and took me to Pizza Hut one day and ordered the pizza. I am vegetarian and was shocked to see the pizza served with no cheese. Something just wasn't right with that. He even had is 2 dogs and cat eating vegan. I told him one day he is going to come home and just have 2 dogs.
My issue has always been eating animal flesh including fish. I guess I can look the other way at everything else like leather shoes.
You'll like owning a Tacoma and this website is great for information and locating parts for upgrades. There are some interesting comments and you'll wonder where did that come from sometimes .

What vegan, leather-free options are there for the Toyota Tacoma?
We searched the vehicle brochures for vegan information, and we're pleased to say that Toyota does provide one vegan trim option(s) for the Tacoma. This means that certain Tacoma interiors don't contain any leather, suede, or other animal products. You can find details of the specific interior(s) below, together with plenty of other important information about the Toyota Tacoma.
Details of vegan, non-leather trim options for this vehicle
The following trim and interior level(s) are vegan on the Toyota Tacoma:

Toyota Tacoma truck SR - Cloth-trimmed seats, leather-free steering wheel
Here's some important information for the vegan option(s) we show above:
    • This information relates to newer cars that are purchased in the US, typically 2018 / 2019 models.
    • If you're buying an older car or you're outside the US, please double-check whether the car you're interested in has a non-leather, animal-product-free interior.
    • When we say "vegan" we mean that to the best of our knowledge the car interior does not contain leather or suede - there may be other animal-derived products (e.g. in the glue in the car or the tires), but information on that is not readily available.
    • In every case, we recommend carrying out your own research to ensure the trim level you are interested in is vegan. Although we try to keep all our details accurate, car information, specifications, and interior options do change over time.
    • You can research whether a car interior is vegan by checking the manufacturer's website, reading car brochures, contacting the manufacturer's customer service team, and speaking with your local dealer. "

    "
Details of non-vegan trim options for this vehicle
Unfortunately, the following interior and trim options are not vegan:
Toyota Tacoma truck SR5 - Leather-wrapped steering wheel.
    • Toyota Tacoma truck TRD - Leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
    • Toyota Tacoma truck TRD OFF ROAD - Leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
    • Toyota Tacoma truck TRD PRO - Leather-trimmed seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
    • Toyota Tacoma truck LIMITED - Leather-trimmed seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
If you want more vegan trim options, please get in contact withToyota

We think the following approach would work well:

    • Clearly explain why vegan interior options would be a good idea for their vehicles.
    • Be friendly and courteous.
    • Use information about their sustainability, environmental views, and corporate social responsibility to inform what you say. You can find details of those areas below.
    • Let them know that more vegans would consider buying their cars if they came with more interiors that did not contain animal products.

    Toyota on corporate social responsibility
We know Toyota provides important benefits to the local communities where we live, work and play. We also know that each location has a unique and important natural balance of plants, animals and ecosystems. That’s why Challenge 6 supports our efforts to minimize the disruption of natural habitats as we plan, construct and manage our facilities across North America.

Toyota is proceeding in cooperation with global society to carry out initiatives that contribute to sustainable development of society and the earth through all its business activities.Regarding the environment, Toyota has been taking various initiatives under the banner of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, with the goal of helping solve global environmental issues, such as climate change, water shortage, resource depletion, and dwindling biodiversity, which are commanding high levels of interest globally.

Contributing to the environment is one of the most important management issues for Toyota. As part of these initiatives, Toyota is aiming to not only contribute to realization of the goal of keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2˚C, which was agreed in the Paris Agreement, but also taking steps that will have positive impact on the environment. Also regarding the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which went into effect in January 2016, Toyota plans to capitalize on its strength to help solve global social issues, for example, by taking actions to address climate change (goal 13), working to reduce traffic casualties (goal 3), and also building sustainable cities and communities and improving mobility.
Toyota achieved a corporate social responsibility score of 58 out of 100 from CSR hub.

    Toyota
    on the environment and sustainability

Let’s face it: there’s only one planet Earth. That’s why we focus on environmentally sustainable solutions in everything we do and every vehicle we make. From our 14 North American manufacturing plants to the more than 1 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles assembled in the U.S., we are advancing toward a brighter tomorrow.

How do you balance a passion for performance with a love for the planet? It’s a question our engineers answer every day. We’re creating vehicles that are safe, practical and fun to drive – while at the same time working to ensure our cars and trucks are at the forefront of environmental engineering. Today, with more than 2 million Toyota hybrid vehicles on U.S. roads – more than any other manufacturer – and new breakthroughs in plug-in, electric, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, we’re building better cars for the road and for the Earth.

You'll love the SR's plastic steering wheel, just enough texture for grip, but cleans easily with a wet cloth.

While we're on the topic, remember that Mercedes w123 fake leather (MB-Tex)!? That stuff was damn near indestructible

These are pictures I took yesterday of the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve just east of Pawhuska OK. It's the largest unmolested tract of tallgrass prairie remaining in North America. The rest stretching from South Dakota to northern Oklahoma has mostly been plowed under for agriculture. We saw deer, bison, coyote, and many other species in a few hours in the afternoon. The natives survived on mostly animals, berries, roots, etc. for sustenance.

I presume leather isn't the primary reason an animal is raised though. It's primary reason is to be eaten. If it's already made the sacrifice for food why not use the rest of it. I don't think you should have a guilty conscience for that.

If I'm coming off as rude I apologize.
