    Hey guys,

    Curiosity killing' me here...

I own a DCSB 4x4 TRD-OFF road and was thinking about the pros and cons about my truck. So i come to the community to ask, do you guys feel that the Access cab is somehow better than the Double cab option? I personally cannot see a use for the access cab since I personally feel that the double cab is great for all of the extra interior room. If so, please give me some objective examples.

I can't sleep in the back of a short bed. My 6' bed it barely long enough. I know that's not a cab question, but the wheel base of a ACLB/DCSB is already pretty long for trails so I make it work. Plus I like being able to reach the sliding rear window in my Access Cab.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
Always had DC's in past, have AC now and like it. Shorter truck with long bed possible on AC.

I understand the necessity for the longer bed, however, couldn't you simply just get the long bed DC option? I thought that Tacoma was one of the few trucks that doesn't change the size of the bed when it comes to AC or DC unlike the GM competitors out there...

This I can understand simply for offload usage and whatever ease. Thanks for the replies guys!

from what I understand the AC is slightly shorter than a DC, so only time it'd care for it is in the city when trying to park lol. otherwise DC is better to me. That way I can keep the dog in the back and not need to put them in a kennel in the bed. Plus added storage inside. I kinda trust the locks and alarm of the doors more than the lock you can get for a bed tool box.

Wheel base is the same length in the AC LB and DC SB. If you get a DC LB, the wheel base is longer, which is bad for trail riding.

You can get a 6' bed on a Double Cab, but my point is that's another foot of wheelbase. That may seem minimal but you feel every inch on trails around here. I don't have kids and rarely have a 3rd person to carry, so Access Cabs don't have a ton of attraction to me. I've never actually owned one, though. Always regular or XtraCabs. I think the suicide doors pretty seal the deal for me, access to the back of my extended cab was the one thing I hated, crawling around to get stuff back there.

I believe that any discussion regarding the advantages/disadvantages, or pros/cons, must include language regarding how each owner intends to use their vehicle. I purchased an Access Cab as opposed to a Double for several reasons. My primary needs based on usage are sleeping in the bed and a short wheel base. I love the extra space in the Double, but my needs outweigh that extra space.
We are fortunate that we have these choices.

Do you need to know, or care?
Not always.....Limited in U.S. is SB, in Canada LB. Go figure.

Everyone has their own priorities. To me the extra foot of bed is way more valuable than extra seating/interior. With a DCLB the wheelbase and turning radius start to get pretty long.

I have dogs that strongly prefer the doublecab.

I have a lady that strongly prefers dual zone air conditioning.

    I'm a sucker for moonroofs.

I have zero interest in sleeping in my bed, and I can get a small trailer if ever I need extra bed space. I do prefer to not have a large truck, however.

Therefore, I have a doublecab, Tech Package, and tow package. Easy choices for me.

My previous Taco was an AC with a long bed. Now I have a DC with a short bed. I don't see myself ever going back to an AC.. Just personal preference. The extra interior space is more beneficial for me than extra bed space.

Double Cab Long Bed TRD OR 4X4

We took my mom and step dad out to the El Paso mountains last weekend. Spent 8 hours traveling around to cabins, mines, tunnels, machinery, etc. They would not have wanted to be stuffed in the back of an access cab. They probably would have said no if we had an access cab.

We have dirt bikes and quads and the long bed is for that. My wife's quad fits in the bed with the tail gate up. I have slept in in the long bed with a Napier tent above me. I'm 6 feet tall. The extra foot hasn't held me back from doing anything I would have done in a short bed

The advantage of the AC is you get the full size, actually usable, bed without the truck being the length of a damn bus. lol

AC 4x4 has 1200 lbs payload. DC 4x4 has 1000 lbs payload. so 4 hefty adults in the DC and blam, you're out of capacity.

since there's just two of us (kids are off at university and/or living their own lives), the AC has adequate space for what all we want to carry in the cab.

I use my AC to carry my astronomy gear, I need every bit of bed space as one of my telescopes is over 5' long.

I also use it for towing our Casita, but a DC would do that too, although with 1000 payload - 350 lbs tongue weight, you can fergit about those 4 adults unless 2 are skinny.
