I need to replace the serp belt on my 05 tacoma prerunner 4.0...I have a gatorback belt that is probably 9 years old. Im wanting to replace it but read that goodyear sold the manufacturing to continental and Ive been reading bad reviews about the newer gator belts coming apart. I never had luck with oem belt,it was always noisy...what are you guys using? Maybe I can find an old stock goodyear gatorback belt on ebay? Thanks for any info...

Dayco and Gates are quality belts. I have a Dayco on my 2006 2.7 right now and it's nice and quiet.

But Dayco may be the OEM belt for your truck, mentioning this due to your bad luck with the OEM belt. By what I've read, it seems the 4.0 V6 is noisy in several different ways.

Also my Corvette has a Gatorback serpentine, the belt is only 2 years old with 10,000 miles and it works fine, but kinda hard to tell how noisy the belt is on the Corvette ;)

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Gates.

What we (or at least I) don't know is who makes the OE belt.

But I'm pretty sure it's not Toyota. And I suspect over the years multiple vendors may have won various bids.

Bando has made OEM belts for Asian mfgs. Not saying they make Toyota's, but they have performed well for me.

That said, when it comes time for me to replace mine(about 100K usually), I'll source it from a dealer.

Regarding the serpentine belt pulley - see this thread:

Dayco is probably the worst belt you can buy. I'm a former ASE tech. We used to get comebacks all the time for Dayco belts squealing after they were just installed. Bando makes the best belts on the market. Gates isn't too bad, but get the good version, not cheap option.

You didn't say how many miles you have on the truck, but being that it's an 05 you should probaly replace all the idler pulleys along with the tensioner, rock auto has a kit for about $160 that has all pulleys, tensioner with pulley and new belt. It took a buddy of mine an me about 3hr to do the install (kinda sucks doing the tensioner) but piece of mind knowing everything is new was worth it.

Eh I dunno about Dayco. They always seem to be a tiny bit longer than the belt I am replacing, which should be the other way around? The OEM one is made by Bando, unless if they changed it recently.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
My OEM went 150k before I changed it and now it's my spare, no shame in that.

Man, I'm bummed to hear about the Gatorback. That was my go-to belt on all of my vehicles!
