1983 Toyota 4x2 22-RE. 415,000 miles on the clock when sold and continued to run for quite a few yrs. after that.

1987 Accord Lx - 375,000 mile when sold.

Older Toyota's and Honda's were the best.

87 Toyota Mini Standard cab LB Deluxe.....about 250k and all it ever did was eat a water pump and a drivers rear wheel bearing. Thing sounded like a diesel in the am when you started it up due to piston slap, but she kept on running! Close second was the 89 Ford Probe I had.....got totaled in 05 but had 190k or so on it and was running great (mainly because it was a Mazda with Ford Badges)....bought it used in 93 when I got divorced...was a fun and very reliable car. Only real issue was it had all the digi dash and such so would eat batteries every 2-3 years.....

1996 Nissan "truck". 14 years and about 180,000 miles when I got rid of it. A decision I am still uncertain about to this day. It was solid in a way my Tacoma isn't. It was also underpowered and uncomfortable as hell on any drive of over an hour. The dealmaker was that I can breathe and move my limbs inside of the Taco. The Nissan was quite small.

1990 Toyota Corolla, 22re. I believe the new owner bought it to rip the motor out for an older Toyota truck.

1998 Nissan Frontier. I bought it used in '99 with 8K miles and sold it to buy a new 2013 Tacoma. It had 242K on the odometer when I sold it and never had any issues with it. Like the post above, I did replace the alternator and clutch at around 200K but other than radiator hoses and belts, I never had one problem with it. It didn't use any oil and ran like a top. The only reason I sold it is because I wanted a 4x4 and needed a double cab for the kids.

Ive heard the early ones were solid. My only reference was a 1973. While it wasnt bad for 1973 ('cause all 73s by every manufacturer suck by today's standards) it wasn't super reliable. Better than the big three for sure.

My 1983 chevy s10 blazer 4x4. It was a piece of shit when I inherited it from my older brother who wrecked it and blew an engine. Drove it like I was in a mad max movie for 3 years in highschool and only spent momey on gas. Wheel came off pulling into the next to last day of 12th grade and my dad (my highschool gym teacher and football coach) laughed and had it towed and junked while I was in class..... I could have fixed it.... I miss that car.

In hindsight, jumping hills on prom night in it might have done the old war horse in. It was a camel tan and cream two tone monster.....

I beat the living piss out of it for about 60k miles, I'm talking skidding tires in 1st through 2nd gear, redline shifting, racing, hard turns, just getting on the pedal all the time. It's such a balls to the walls car.

Only recently did it ever break down and it's just a wiring short somewhere that i'm still trying to figure out; cylinder compression is all spot on and mechanically it is stout. For the money i would recommend anyone to get it, oh and it's been making over 300whp for the last year or so, and will be 380whp when it's back on the road! :D

Would be my 89 full size Jimmy, 289 thousand kilometers and only a waterpump and alternator changed. Was running like a top when I sold it, body was crap though, kinda like the Tacoma first gen frames.

2003 Camry that I purchased new and only has 60K. Replaced battery, tires, front brake pads, brake light switch and intake manifold. My daughter is driving it now and is beating the hell out of it and it is still running like brand new.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Believe it or or not it's my wifes 03 Focus 2.3L. It has 225K and the only things under the hood ever changed was the oil, spark plugs, battery and the thermostat. NOTHING ELSE! Brakes, fuel filter and other maintenance items done as needed but the only odd thing I have to replace is the sway bar end links. It goes through a set every 70K upfront and needs them replaced now for the rear. No complaints at all for a car the cost under 13K new.
