I have an 05 5 lugger sr5. Ive been wondering what this black box is for some time now and it finally bugged me enough to ask. Its right next to the hood popping latch. The wire leads down to the foot guard thing that you pop off to enter the dash.

    heres a pic of it
    [IMG]

heres a pic of where it leads...to a bigger black box with a dial labled max-min. right now its on min.

and one more question...are my leafs shot? I havnt gotten the TSB done because i added a leaf and i know they will blame it on that. And i dont feel like taking it off them putting it back on....

the pic was taken on a hill so it may look worse than it is....

The road noise sensor to regulate radio volume? I have been wondering myself.

It's a useless security device that dealers put in the truck. They cost the dealer 10 - 20 bucks and they usually charge several hundred for it. If you decide not to buy it, they just plug it off. I work at a Chevy dealer and we use to have a device like that called ProLock. We have a newer version that uses a relay and a keyless remote. IMO, they are all garbage.

I don't recognize that particular model, but I would guess you would have to go to the dealer that installed it to make it work. If it were my truck, I would have it removed. Unfortunately, I do not know how to remove it. I've never installed one. BTW, Welcome to TW.

Thanks for the welcome guys. The one in my truck is installed like that too, it looks really out of place.

its a glorified starter disable, take it to your local car audio/security shop and ask them to remove it. very simple to do.

same one that used to be on mine, i have the holes under my dash to prove it :( my truck is from ventura toyota

You'd think it could be mounted in a way or in a location that does not damage the interior. But these same people might also try to kill a mosquito with a bazooka. Genius!

    Just wait!
Mine was from El Cajon toyota and it had the same system. i told them that those splice connectors really compromise the wiring and that maybe they ought to wait to install them. The main power was so cut that I had to cut and splice it.

It looks like a electronic braking module for trailers with electric brake assist. If not I have no idea but if your leafs are shot that's probably what it is as the previous person would have a heave loaded trailer.

When you find out what it is let us know.
