    New owner — 2017 SR5 — got in the truck yesterday and noticed this (empty) slot high on the windshield. What was / should be in this slot?

    I originally just mounted the ez pass in the holder.

    But as @RonG78 pointed out, it was very conspicuous from the outside.
    So, I wrapped it in black cling vinyl. Now you have to be right on top of it to see it, and then it does not stand out too much.

    It's where I hang my dash cam, and I use the dongle splitter to wire it to my rearview mirror.

    Unfortunately on newer Taco's, they stopped including these.
