So do retired ASE certified master technicians that only put about 4k a year with a lot of short distance drive cycles.

Same. Bought the truck used with 180k miles. Have noticed it idles quieter when I come home from work and that it feels a bit smoother when on the gas pedal. Will be opening up the valve covers after two more oil changes with this

Every 5k miles with Mobil 1 and OE Toyota filter. Easy interval for my brain to remember. 2015 V6 w/74k miles.

Don't put many miles in 6 months so I go by time. Miles in 6 months for me is 1800 miles.

Me. 5 qts puts it right at mid-point between the dots on the stick when the engine is cold. A check when it's hot/warm and it's just below the top dot. (4.0L)

FWIW: Owner's manual states between the dots is "normal"... "if it's at or below the lower dot: "add oil". (Nice job mailing it in on that response Toyota.:notsure:) When I had cars with an oil filter that didn't mount upside-down or sideways, I would fill it with oil before installing it.

Anyways, I don't chase that last half quart and it never drops between oil changes. (5k)

    Over-filled is always bad.

    1) Buy her a one way ticket home.
    2) demo the guest room and park your Tacoma in there.
    3) tell a joke, “what is the difference between in-laws and outlaws?” … “Outlaws are wanted!” …lol

I did Dino oil every 5,000 miles for the first two years (ToyotaCare dealer oil changes). Since then I've been doing Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic every 7,500 miles. I just hit 100,000 miles and let the oil go to 10,000 miles to have it tested as a "worst case". I got the results back from Blackstone and everything came back great. The report states the wear is more consistent with oil with 6,000 miles.

Another unsolicited comment: Cycle World has a great podcast where Mark Hoyer (editor) and Kevin Cameron (MIT guy, tech editor) talk about MC stuff but some of the subjects could definitely apply to the automotive field. They did a show about motor oil and made it very simple.
Open owners manual, read section pertaining to engine oil maintenance, perform oil change per manual.
    Done.
The podcast delves into the whole personalized oil change thing without criticizing anyone for doing it different than what the manufacturer suggests.
But they make it obvious that deviating from the manufacturer’s guidelines is pretty much a waste of money. And I must admit, a MIT engineering grad with about 50 years experience in racing engines probably knows a little more than me.

Every 5-6k miles. I let the maintenance light tell me when it’s time. I trust Toyota on that one.

    YZZD3 Filter
Synthetic 5w30, usually Mobil but whatever’s on sale is usually fine since they all meet Toyotas requirements.
    Grease driveshaft
Every other oil change clean MAF and TB
    Air filter
Cabin filter once a year (every other oil change)
Wiper blades because FL sun kills the rubber quick.

I need to flush my brake fluid, coolant, and do a lazy trans fluid change as well. Probably power steering fluid too. Coming up on 143k miles now.

Unless your oil light is flickering at hot idle, I would not worry about it at all. Run it a normal OCI and then change to 5w30. Just don't beat on it while towing until you do, even then it probably would be fine.
