I'm just curious as to what issues people are running into with this insane heat wave lately, automotive or otherwise. 112 here yesterday in SoCal, and our house A/C couldn't even keep up. Set to 70, but it couldn't get below 75, and that's in a new construction with a new system, and new insulation etc etc!

It also caused some problems with our work vehicles, as the brake lights started melting.

So, what problems have you had?

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
No heat wave here. Been cooler than normal which is nice because I've been able to work on outdoor projects without sweating my balls off.

I was at a small town festival this weekend and they had some tigers on display. The handler said they were a crew from a Texas zoo and brought them to WI because it was too hot for them back home right now. Thought that was interesting.

not hot here either, think it might have gotten up to 98F but I don't consider that hot but normal for this time of year should be in the 100-105F in the next month but that still is the norm.

we got to enjoy the cooler weather in May, but summer has come roaring in lol. A/C unit at my house can't even keep up, I usually have it set to 70 but the lowest it could get was 75.

Yeah if you can get a 20 degree split with your AC your doing good with those temps. AC units struggle when it gets that hot.....

That's wild though with those tail light skin I have never seen anything like that...

It got so hot here in Texas once I saw a tree melt. True story.

I enjoy yardwork when it's 120°" outside. It gives my skin a better chance of catching cancer.

I have the garage AC set at 74° so my truck doesn't have to suffer as much.

Yeah I know about that 20 degree split. The sucky part was the A/C units got heat soaked, so even when it cooled down at night they weren't as efficient. I had to turn the off for a while and let it take a half day vacation, then it came back working 100% lol

That "20° split" is inside air, not outside air.

Keeping a house at 70° in ~112° weather is quite a task for most AC units. Mine runs at 74° at night with comparable outside temps and it cycles frequently. At 70° it would be running close to nonstop.

At work we had numerous issues with tree branches breaking off and falling into the streets. So hot the branches were like "nah, I'm out."

Yeah...that's why I'm getting solar. My electricity bills are insane, but I like it cold. Anything over 70 and it's hot to me. I just installed ceiling fans. Luckily our house was wired for them in every room other than the kitchen and dining room. I can handle 73-75 with the fan on, the air movement helps a lot.

I can't sleep without the fans running. Even in the winter. If I didn't catch hell from the wife for it I'd have the AC set to 70 as well. She says it's too cold and the children will freeze.

Solar isn't worth it out here from what I've heard from owners of systems. They end up braking even instead of seeing any actual savings. Kinda sucks.

My wife has grown accustomed to it. When we first moved in together, she would complain all the time. Now she's going "it's hot in here" at like 72 degrees...I WON! lol

Out here we get 300+ days of sun, by all estimates I will break even in the winter and save ~$250 a month in summer by going solar.

Ok... hold up, you've got an A/C just for your garage? I've got three 6 ton roof units trying to cool my house alone, and one was just tested and is on its last leg. I guess I need a garage A/C too. Not gonna lie, sometimes I hate turning on the oven to bake something because it just gets the house hot, so I'll bake it out in the garage. Takes longer but as long as it works and cooks whatever I'm making, I'm good.

My heat wave is a little different, as it's been around 90° with 90% humidity. Finally motivated me to fix the AC in my truck.

I've actually been getting a decent amount of rain. Just brings in more humidity.
