Next concept, need all your expert opinions.

Brackets, that fasten into our current strut channel rails that will have then span using a strut channel rail so this way all the accessories that work with our current rails, work in this too. It'll fasten with a ratcheting handle, which means you can rotate it 360 degrees to point the channel in any direction you need for your application.

    Ok, go!

I'm sure you have, it is a simple idea. But I haven't been able to find anyone who sells it.

I really can't see this shooting off.... Your trying to come in and replicate/custom mods that currently exist already, or making some small changes and add you own twist at a lower cost... If that's the case I think your better off with say actually making an item say the bed cross bars or bracket or what ever and sell a set so people can see the actually complete product and your asking price then asking people what they want at lost price for concept program diagrams. Guys including my self im sure want all kinds of mods at dirt cheap ( get what you pay for). And I don't think there's going to be a huge list of people waiting for a product unless its dirt cheap compared to the products currently out and proven to work..

    Pictures are a plus

Just my thought, not bashing or anything. I am all for ingenuity, by the way I would like a trd rep or what ever front skid plate

    Good luck J

I agree it is expensive. But it is worth every penny of the $650 I paid for it when I put around 5k worth of bikes on the rack. It's proven and I trust it more than a "L" shape bracket that would hold only in the track.

Not saying there shouldn't be a option out there for something like that... It just wouldn't suit my needs.

All products I have thrown up here are in process of fabbing. Once I am done, I will put them on the truck, take pics and upload with a cost. I don't exactly have an unlimited funds bank account and making a ton of ideas with potentially finding out that no one wants them would be a big waste of money. This is why I am asking opinions before I start throwing money around.

I am with you on the peace of mind aspect. Had my $900 bike on my rack going down the interstate and it came off doing 70 mph. That is what I get for using a brand I've never heard of when I bought it because it was half the cost of a Thule.

I am all about DIY and innovating new things but it looks like a lot of other peoples ideas up there. Granted some of them are no longer selling the product or never were but hopefully the credit goes to the right place or the differences are substantial. All the best with the venture. Interested to see what you come up with.

Not only that but how is there any bit of money in putting out products when there are 3-4 other better established vendors that offer the same thing.

Not knocking, and this is an honest question OP, on a consumer standpoint why should I go with the new guy making the exact same product vs. the established vendors?

Only thing I'd be interested in is the locking cubby plates which seem pretty neat. I see they offer a gasket for water proofability, but I'd guess I need to seal up the hole in the storage box as well.

It would most likely be stronger than the mounts that Yakima makes. The roof basket on my 4runner mounted with the L brackets is rock solid. There is something to be said in simplifying things.

    This: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/164975-bumpers-2nd-gens-only.html

Why would anyone pick one company over the other? A bumper is a bumper is a bumper. They all offer some slight styling changes or slight differences elsewhere but in the end, it is still a bumper yet there are 15 vendors making them that are on this site alone, more out there.

Everyone starts somewhere. I am starting with small stuff that doesn't seem like too many people make them. All my designs offer subtle differences and different cost points. This is marketing 101 and this is what everyone does. A car is car, yet their are 100's of different kinds. It's base purpose is to get you from a to b safely. But every make and model has differences, and they all for the most part, sell.

Honestly, I am all for rooting for the little guy and don't believe in big business. I like to see the small guys thrive, but that is just me.

That being said, once all my parts get in, and I get them installed, pics uploaded and a price list out we'll see what happens. If they don't sell, I am not going to be upset. This is a side project me and I figured I'd see what happened. I have 9-5 job that pays my bills, this is something that I've always wanted to try to do and so I decided to give it a shot.

I do enjoy everyone's comments though. It is helping me get through ideas and I promise, before I started thinking of products I did an honest search on what is out there. But good lord forum search engines suck. Then zscott post links with all products out there and it made me realize how late to the game I am. I wish he saw this thread in the beginning haha.

    Anyways, that's all I got.

So what you're saying is, you'd rather not support someone who shows up out of nowhere, takes other peoples designs, then threatens to undercut the originator on price.

That sort of capitalism is great out in the world, but this is TacomaWorld, not eBay or Amazon.

New ideas and new products are GREAT, and encouraged, but start with your own ideas.

In my earlier posts I described a bracket that would allow the Yakima crossbars (which are very strong and widely used) to rest on the top of the bed sides, but fasten to the sliding bed rail with an L bracket like angle iron and U bolts. Once tightened, this setup wouldn't budge.
