What kind of cleaner do I use to clean an olympic bar?

Bought a house with an oly bar left in the garage and a pretty good one too. Would like to clean it of grime and any trace of the previous owner. How can I accomplish a semi-restore?

 

If rust the issue, I would use a mild wire brush or scratch pad and PB blaster. If it's just grime and dirt try soap and a stiff bristled brush. When you're done apply with a towel a light oil like mineral oil to the bar

 

I don't believe there is any rust, I think it's just dirty from usage and being stored in a not so clean environment. Thanks! Never had to clean one before.

 

Most people clean using the hook-grip.

 

Id go with bleach.
