What kind of engine oil, viscosity/weight and make, are most of you using??

I did a search but found nothing.

My 2.7 has 64k miles on it and I want to start using synthetic in it. I have alot of 5-40 Mobil 1. I may use that.

    What's the opinion out there?

    Thanks

it depends on if you want to push out your oil changes. ..if you do, go with something like castrol edge or mobil 1 ep. ..or amsoil, ..or pensoil ultra.

if you're not going to extend your change interval. ..just go with a regular brand name synthetic.

at any rate. ..i think the prefered weight is either 5 or 10w30

Use whatever weight your owner's manual specifies. As far as brand, all the major brands give excellent results as long as you change on schedule.

Personally, nothing has given me as good a result as Royal Purple. But try a bunch of stuff and draw your own conclusions.

Also, oil analyses will help you determine how your engine wear is doing.

Anyone run Mobil Clean 5000? I just picked some up for our Matrix for $11 at Wally World (5qt jug). I like to change the oil every 3k anyways so synthetic is overkill.

I was going to run the same stuff in my 4runner next oil change.

I bought my 1998 tacoma with 100,000 miles on it. The first owner used mobile 1 5w 30 starting with the second oil change. That's all I use. I use a mobile 1 oil filter as well. I used to run 5000 mile intervals until I talked to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ they analyzed my oil and my engine is in perfect health with no wear at 145,000 miles. They told me that this particular oil doesnt break down until 7,500 miles and to run my oil longer.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I have several gallons of the older 5-40 Mobil 1 DIESEL/TRUCK oil. Guess I'll use it and run it for 7-8k miles or so.

I don't think they even make that oil any more. Don't know what happened. They may have just changed the label.

    Thanks
