I feed my golden retriever Hills Science Diet sensitive skin. He's been on it since he came off of puppy formula food.

My girlfriend feeds her dog (a boston terrier) Purina pro plan and the dog shits like 8-9 times a day (all solid). It's rediculous and annoying! He wakes us in the middle of the night to take a crap usually. We are in the process of trying some different food. It's all the damn grain and corn filler in the food. My golden poops MAYBE twice a day, usually just once.

Like other people said. The higher priced foods may seem more expensive but they require less food to be fed so it really doesn't cost much more. My 80lb Golden retriever gets about 2.5 cups per day (1.25 in the morning and 1.25 in the evening) You will have to experiment with the amount you feed based on the breed and activity level.

A friend of mine also had the gas problem when she switched her shepherd to Blue buffalo. She said he had awful smelling gas when he was on it so she switched him to something else.

Just be aware that some of the store brands will add additives to their food with the intention of making the coat look good, knowing that almost everyone sees that as an indicator of good food.

Also, if you want a food any dog will go CRAZY for get Merrick anything, add warm water and wait 2 minutes. Serve. It has chips in the food that will melt into a gravy.

My pit stopped getting it because he would eat it so fast that he would immediately throw up his whole meal. I had to serve it without water, so that he would slow down a little. I eventually switched to California Natural with few ingredients, which was better on his stomach.

    Blue.

After all the research I did on dog food, before getting my dog, i'll never feed her grocery store crap. I'd rather pay the extra money than feed her crap.

iv had my dog for about a year and a half not i got her when she was 4 months.

i have had her on pro 5 different foods she never had the shits but her gas was intense.

i recently switched to blue buffalo for the past id say 5 bags and she HAS NOT had any issues with gas/shits and i have noticed that her coat has gotten much nicer as well.

its kinda pricy but i think its worth it idk if they do this every where but where i get her food from they take the sku off the bag every time i buy one and the 10th bag is free.

but idk to each their own and i think each dog is different as well.

here is a pic of the pup she is a shepherd/pitt mix

    also just for fun

when you see its you'll shit a brick haha

X2 on everything you just said.

I have a Boston Terrier. They are notorious for bad gas and Blue seems to be the only cure! haha... And her coat is shiny and soft.

They don't like it, but both of mine get Hills Science Diet C/D, because one of my dogs gets bladder stones otherwise, and it's too difficult to feed my two dogs different types of food.
She's old though, so in a year or two when she kicks off I'll get something tastier for the young one.

When i had him......The cheap stuff (Like Ol Roy). If you never give him the expensive stuff, he'll never be unhappy with his food. Cheap is important when you have a Great Dane that empties a 50lb bad of food weekly.
