For summer I run Toyo Open Country MT's E-rated on 17" alloys. For winter I run Wrangler Duratrac E-rated on 16" steelies. Yeah it's overkill but the roads I use daily will destroy tires so its peace of mind for me. My truck earns a paycheck on beat up industry roads and my recreation pursuits are past the end of those same roads. No more separated tires causing me grief. IMHO though, C-rated tires would be my choice if my truck didn't hafta work and if they were available with the tread I want.

So what, just because I'm not out tearing out my sidewall on rocks, I'm just a puddle jumper? I agree with brianpdx, your statement is a huge overgeneralization.

Also, if you're going to be 2 days out, you should have been prepared with at least 1 full sized spare. Your situation was not the result of a soft sidewall, it was the result of not being prepared for the expedition.

I destroyed both rear tires. I was as prepared as I should have been, except for E load tires.

Im wondering whats best for me. The 265/70/17 bfg ATs I have now or the tires Im looking at the dueler revo 2s. The revos though say the P rated can take 2833lbs, and yet my C rated bfs only take 2684lbs. Im thinking its better then what I have now then no? Same weight too

Wow, really? E range tires are made to handle large loads, period. Because of that they have very tough side walls to hold that weight. Tough side walls don't get flats easily. If you think your "using" all of you E range tires to their full extent, your wrong. Have you put 3500 lbs on one tire? Don't think so. Our little trucks don't have enough weight to bulge the side walls at low pressure.

I am using E load on my winters, but only because it was the only load range available for my 265 75 R16. I ran C and D loads before with no issues. E loads may have 10 plies on the tread surface but may only have 2 plies on sidewalls. IMO some tires with 6 plies in the thread surface and 3 in the sidewall can be adequate for most applications. That's my $ 0.02 worth.

I run P rated Hankook Dynapro ATM's. Go offroad about 5-6 times per year. They're more than adequate. It comes down to buying what you need. I would guess half the people who have E rated tires, have them just to say they have E rated tires.

i may not be using the full weight.(or most guys on here with E rang. i had to them for the thinker side walls for offroading. oh and YES the truck WILL bulge the side walls on an E rang tire. i’ll take psi reading and pic of mine tomorrow.
like i said above, i had got them for the thicker side walls.

I have E rated Hankook ATm's , I have the E rated ones because that's the only rating available in 275/70/17 , before these tires I had E rated Hankook MT's , I had the E rated ones because that's the only rating available in 265/70/17

    After I tire of these ATm's , I'll get E rated KM2's , I'll get the E rated because that's the only rating available in 255/80/17
