17 off road double cab. Only 2.5k miles on it. Longest trip was 300 miles to destination and 300 back. Just wondering if to follow the recommendation of waiting unroll 10k for an oil change or do it at 5k. Tire rotations or anything else. What did you guys 1at few thousand miles maintenance wise.

I have done or brought in to be done my, 5k, 10k, 15k, and soon to be 20k. The dealer performs what is done in the book and I have had them change the oil each time. For my 10k I noticed a very small spot on the pumpkin, so the dealer replaced rear-end oil, seal, and bolts. Truck has been awesome!

EDIT: I was not on the recall and had no issue with the rear-end. I just wanted to be proactive because I plans on having this truck a long time!

Oil change every 5, the dealer takes care of it every 10 and I do the middle of that, coming up on my last free service at 25k, and rotate tires also every 5k, and unless you are off-roading constantly, not much other maintenance is needed on the truck for awhile..

2016 TRD Sport, 29k miles. Change oil and filter every 5k miles (I do it myself) along with tire rotations each time. Truck has not been back to the dealer... I simply dont want to have a carefree person screw something up.

Wash, wax with high quality sealant 1x year. Going to be doing again this weekend, but with Gtechniq CSL ceramic coating. Otherwise, not a thing.

+1 on the oil changes every 5k miles.
Also did the diff fluid as part of the break in procedure for new gears but I would have done it at 10k anyway.
Aside from that - tire rotations and make sure all the fluids are full

Ditto on 5K oil change. Did switch to Amsoil Signature Series and noticed a quieter running motor.

This morning I got my tires rotated at 5k. That and car washes are all I've done. I don't understand the reason for everyone's 5k mile OCI. What evidence is there not to follow the Toyota recommendation of a 10k OCI?

I don't have a 3rd gen but 10k miles - 16K Kms seems like a long time with no oil change.

10k oil change with a quality oil and filter is no big deal. I've always done 10k changes. But since this is a new truck I'll do the first at 2-3k and 10k after.

None other than the recall on the rear end. Service Dept. torqued the bolts and sent me on my way.

Service Dept. also changes my oil/filter once a year.

Am going to take it in this spring so they can clean the evap core. Hope the cow manure smell don't come back.

2200 on my 18, planning on oil change myself at 5k after looking through the manual and seeing they only do it every 10k.. while I'm thinking about it, is getting the aluminum oil filter housing worth it? And if it is what's the part number for it? Amazon has a few of them

Ya I don’t get everyone’s OCD about every 5K either?? Sure on older cars but on newer engines it’s not required. Something as vital as oil is to an engine I’m sure Toyota wouldnt over estimate the mileage one could get. If anything they probably under estimated what one could get out of one oil change.

I do all my new units at 5000 I wanted to see how much metal was in the cartridge. I did not see any. Ill change it at 10,000 mile check up Ill go in closer to 11,000 and then at 20,000. Then I am on my own. I have 8 filters here got them for 34$ for 10. My Camry uses the same filter.

Take my truck into the dealer every 8,000km as recommended by Toyota. Oil change every 16,000km also recommended by Toyota. Will be taking it in soon for my second oil change. Almost owned my 2017 for a full year +)

My apologies to the OP for going off topic but I like this OCI discussion. Professional oil analysis is the best way to determine what a vehicle's OCI should be. With the previous Toyota trucks I've owned my analysis came back suggesting that I could go much longer than the manufacturer suggested interval (which was 5000 miles for both my 5.7L Tundra and my 3.4L 4Runner). I usually went about 8K miles.

I haven't run an oil analysis for my 2017 Tacoma yet but I'm inclined to accept Toyotas recommendation until my 5 included services are used up.

Nobody has ever had a problem with too many oil changes.

Some people like the piece of mind knowing that they've got brand new honey in their engine.

It's overkill, but the one good thing about my dealer is they are reasonable on oil changes so I get it changed every 5k - rationalize it by the fact that I idle in rush hour traffic A LOT and it makes me feel better about myself and placebo is worth a lot sometimes... :)

    Beyond that:
    Tighten U-bolts
Grease U-joints if you have zerks
    Rotate tires every 5k
    Replaced my failed CKP sensor
    Replaced my failing battery
Cleaned by oily MAF that came from the factory with residue on it...
Change my engine air filter at about 15k - only b/c it tends to get mucked up faster if you are on dusty dirt roads/trails

Edit: 23k on the OD, have had the truck for just over a year now
