I'm thinking of switching to full synthetic but not sure which brand to go with. I'm hearing Mobil 1 and Royal Purple. Thoughts?

I've currently got whatever Toyota puts in it, will probably switch it over to the oil I use for everything else (bike, last car, guns, etc).

    Good ole Rotella T6.

    Right now... Valvoline Maxlife synthetic.

Next change will likely be Pennzoil Platinum high mileage, simply because I normally use Pennzoil.

Personally i use T6 in all my motorcycles, but you wont find it in my truck. No energy conserving additives, and 40w is too thick for the 1GR.

Mobil 1 0w-30 from walmart and the MIR's from Mobil 1 make a 5 quart jug right around 12-13 bucks.

5W-20 Pennzoil. Good for 10,000 miles with no degradation and no metal flakes. I checked it at 5k and changed it at every 10K. Looking at my third oil change here in 2 or 3 months.

I switch around time to time. I did free changes up to 25k, then switched to synthetic with Mobile 1, then switched to Pennzoil Platinum (not ultra platinum since couldn't find locally), then did Royal Purple for 2 changes. Back to the Pennzoil now. Probably will stick with that or Mobile 1. RP is not worth the extra cost to me.

Great cold weather characteristics. Cold is harder on your oil then heat. They're all engineered for running at engine temps. Cold starts are what you need to be protecting your truck from, whether its 75 out or -20. No way in hell would I put a xW-40 in my truck. You're just making the engine function without oil longer at startup.

I've been using Mobil1 Synthetic exclusively now in all my vehicles for 15+ years - I never have had an engine problem, even when pushing the mileage up to 8000 or 9000. I now pay the extra and just get the Extended Performance, which supposedly is good for 15k miles. I never push it that far, I just change the oil when I get around to it, before 10k miles.

I've been using whatever synthetic is on sale and changing at every 6000 km but I have really been waiting for a good time to use the royal purple brand. Anyone have any luck with that?
