Don't know if this is in my '09 manual and I'm too lazy to go outside and see but I found this on another forum.

I have the '05 DC TRD Sport. From page 380 of my owners manual:
    Fuel Type: 1GR-FE engine -
Unleaded gasoline, Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended.

They must have changed the manuals. Page 380 is into the maintenance section on my manual.

I'm not going to get into the mileage vs octane vs power vs whatever debate. WAYYYY to many factors in that for anyone to simply state that 93 vs 87 is better. From driving habits, to mods, to your engine's tolerances, elevation, temperatures outside, yadda yadda yadda. To each their own, drive what you 'think' is best for you.

I did want to clarify this "research octane" issue though.

Europe uses RON (research octane), which is usually 8-10 points higher than MON (motor octane), in the US & Canada we use RON+MON/2, so our gas is about 4 point lower. Same stuff but different rating system. Toyota puts both #'s in the manual to confuse us.

    Google for a full explaination.

i used octane boast in my older truck for towing and i find it helped a lot.
i read in my manual for my new truck and is says do not add octane boast with mmt because it will damage it. how come?

Since when have vehicle PCMs been able to determine fuel octane compressibility and adjust accordingly?
    This is news to me.
I thought that is what programmers were for... and even then it was preset for that particular truck based off advanced testing by the manufacturer of the product.

    Right?

I use the cheapest for in town driving...up here in Canada (Ontario) we pay around 0.85 per litre (Octane 87)...which is around 3.21 a Gallon in the States.

Man, I wish we paid the same as you guys.

In Oregon all gas has a is 10% ethanol, so there is some octane boost from that, or so I read somewhere.

    Therefore, I burn 87.

I have always run mid-grade, 89 octo. To bad everything here in the Midwest is a 10% ethanol blend.
