Looks like I'm getting an 04 4x4 reg cab next week. What basic mods should I do first to make sure this thing is invincible? It is already running synthetics....what else would ya'll recomend?

armor it up, then lift it, then work on traction

that doesn’t affect the invincibility factor you mentioned. plus you're getting a 1st gen (2004), i dont know about them and i was speaking in general terms.

edit: just realized this is in the 1st gen section. i'll mind my own business now...

depending on the mileage, do the usual tune-up essentials. new fluids for the diff., trans., spark plugs, timing belt if needed, coolant, and so forth. make a check-list for the general maintenance first and go from there. i have 234k miles and not a single hick-up so far(knock on wood) by maintaining it thoroughly.

If you want it to be invincible....leave it bone stock and keep up on the maintenance

Thanks! Mileage is 70k but this is gonna be my baby and I set aside some extra for a comprehensive tune up. Anything on the 04 Tacoma that I should expect problems with?

I'm a big fan of preventative maintenance...my first car was an 88 4runner and I would have driven that thing pole to pole because I knew exactly what condition it was in....I wanna have that option again!

With Toyota you will be able to do that again. Timing belt water pump all belts n hoses change all fluids plugs and wires and you have a brand new vehicle lol

Basically put gas in it and drive haha keep on your normal maint and your good to go. Neither the 3.4 or 2.7 have the head gasket issue like the 3.0 did so you really shouldn't have any issues.
