Hey guys, I have been on the look for a decent deal on a Tacoma for months with no luck. I have been looking for something a year or 2 old but they want almost as much as a new one!!! As for a new one, I talked to a few dealers and they will not budge on the price, well maybe like 500 bucks. My truck is paid for and still under warranty so i'm not in a big rush to get a Tacoma but figured with the economy the way it is and people selling stuff I would come across something sooner or later. Did you all pay top dollar for these trucks?

I would think you could get one that is a few years old for around 20k. You just have to keep looking and something will pop up.

Ya, I was looking on there. All the prices seem to be very high. I seen an 08 double cab with 17K on it for $33,000

They hold their value very well. I didn't even consider a used Tacoma once I saw the prices.

I was in the same boat as you. I looked for about 5 months as I was not in a rush. I too seriously considered a new one because of the prices I was finding.

But I think if you look long enough you will find a good deal, if you're not picky it might be even easier.

I was able to pick up an 08 DC TRD Sport 4X4 White Long Bed for $25k.
    Great Price? No
    Fair? Yes

    Good Luck

How much are you guys getting off the price of a new one? I understand it's not a GM or Dodge and don't expect to get 6-10K off but dealers I have talked with won't wheel and deal at all.

I got a couple quotes on new 09's several months ago that were about $2-3000 off msrp with factory rebates. But then cash for clunkers rolled in and everything got gone quick.

I'd rather wait for that deal again than buy a used one for the same price with 20k + miles. Problem is, the 2010's are in now and there probably won't be that kind of discount for quite a while.

I was in the same boat until this past weekend. I had been looking at used DC 4x4 V6 models and really wanted the TRD OR package. As you said, prices are flippin close to new unless it's > 2 years with > 30k miles on it. I found a dealer willing to negotiate on the last day of the month and got my '10 DC SB TRD OR 4x4 V6 for $100 over invoice + tax, title, lic this past Saturday. I was out the door just under sticker price.

Here's what the dealer told me. The assembly line in CA is in a plant jointly owned with GM, or I should say WAS jointly owned by GM. Due to GM's situation and some other circumstances, Toyota is going to shift production from California to the plant that manufacturers Tundras and Sequoias. This is slated to happen in March 2011, and production will not begin again until June-July 2011. He said that for the immediate future, Tacomas are going to be tough to get discounts on.

However, that said, I feel like I got an excellent price on mine relative to the market. If you can find a dealer that has one that has been sitting on the lot for a while, and it's the end of the month, you might luck out. My general experience with other dealers was similar to yours though. They came down a little, but nowhere near enough to earn my business.

Good luck. I found it was well worth the time it took to hunt one down and find a dealer that was really pleasant to do business with.

Welcome to the truck with the best resale value in its class...

I paid well under MSRP for my truck, but I bought new and had a shit-ton of options added, so the dealer had more room to negotiate and still get his profit...it also helped that I was buying during a time when truck sales were nosediving...

Sticker was 36,700, I paid 34,500 OTD and was later refunded $2500 because the big brake package is not applicable to non-Xrunners and the dealer apparently didn't know this at time of sale...

So 32,000 OTD on a truck stickered around 34,200...TTT was about 2000 even, so 4200 below sticker for the truck itself...not bad.

And of course, all I've done since buying it is pour money into it...

I just ordered my truck a few weeks ago. My brother-in-law works for a Land Rover dealership that is right next door to a Toyota dealership that is owned by the same parent company. The best they could do for me was the "family discount" or employee price which is 500 over invoice. The MSRP on my truck was 31748 and they are selling it to me for 29648 which is 500 over invoice. They would not go any lower than this price. I figured this was a good deal because I was ordering the truck and I thought that I wouldn't get a good price from any other dealer.

You can figure 6500.00 below sticker is true invoice.

I bought this truck for $25,300 out the door (including TTL). They also gave me a huge amount on my trade in (over 20k for an 07 wrangler with 49k miles.)

That's just not true. There are, of course, different figures based on trim but there's just no way $6500 is the correct figure. That would mean my Tacoma's true invoice was $18,800 and there's just no way that's correct. Invoice for mine was actually $23,500 which is what I paid.

I think that has pushed more buyers from new vehicle to used vehicles and put upward pressure on used vehicle prices. At the same time supply chain disruptions (switching to a different plant) has reduced the supply of new trucks.

If you have the time, keep looking. Occasional deals do pop up. You just need to make sure you don't miss them as there are others watching who will act quickly.

FWIW, I was surprised how small the spread was between a new truck and the '06 we just bought, but it looked great, had a documented maintenance history and was what we wanted. So... I guess I'm part of the problem. On one hand I hope it continues to hold value, but on the other I hope it just runs forever so that resale value never matters.

    Good luck finding your ride!

Try getting a costco membership (or heck just saying you have one). They'll be obliged to give you their Costco Member price, which for me was supposedly $100 under invoice (turned out to be about $2K under sticker, $26K on a $28K 2010 Access Cab V6 4x4 w/SR5 #4). You still get any factory cash back with it too ($500 at the current time). Think it's a pretty fair deal with no haggling involved which was a plus in my book.

Try autotrader or craigslist. I got my 06 tacoma double cab trd sport for $24500 with only 22k miles on it. You just have to be patient and search just about everytime you get the chance.
