I know someone is going to say "Here we go again" or "Search"...Well, I have but I am kind of a rock when it comes to figuring out what amplifier is required. I am planning out my stereo upgrade for when I come home this fall. I am planning on picking up a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS from Crutchfield due to their freebies that come with a purchase. Then I am going to get speakers and an amp from OnlineCarStereo.com. Looking at Infinty Kappa/Perfect because I have ran these in the past and loved them. When I lived in MD I had a good friend who was a guru at installing audio systems, unfortunately he died in a motorcycle wreck in 2004. So, I am looking for an answer to what size and how many channels do I need in an amplifier. I am looking at getting a JL Audio amp. Below are the specs on the speakers I am looking at. Thanks in advance

    Front:
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Component System
    2 x 6.5" Woofer's
    2 x 1" Tweeter
    RMS: 100 W
    Impedance: 4 Ohms

    Rear:
    Infinity Kappa 62.9i
    2 X 6.5" 2-way speakers
    RMS: 75 W
    Impedance: 2 Ohm

First it depends on if you are planning on adding a sub or not later. If so, then look into a good 5-channel amp, that will power everything. I got a 5-channel alpine that puts out 60W RMS to each speaker and 350W at 2Ohm to the sub channel.. For me, I found 60W per channel to be plenty. I run Polks components up front that handle up to 100W RMS, and the rears handle around 60W RMS.

If you don't want to add a sub... then a similar 4 channel amp will probably be fine.

    Get a 4x100 @ 4 ohms for your mids and highs. I have a 4x 100 + 500 5 channel amp and find it only adequate.

Sorry I didn't clarify; I thought about that while driving a bit ago. I do not plan on adding a sub; I did that when I was a teenager and don't see myself going that direction again. The Infinity Kappa's I had before had plenty of bass.

Im looking at a similar setup and for the few hundred bucks more will be adding a sub.
I think a 100x4 with 500x1 will be more than adequate for what I expect form a sound system. Im still figuring out what sub to go with and will be building my own enclosure.

So I am back home after a six month vacation to SW Asia. Here is what I have ordered/received so far. I will be installing in December during my 30 day real vacation. I will try to post some pictures of the install but I am a full on computer retard and will make zero promises.

    Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS

Infinity 60.9cs : 6.5" component system for front door

    Infinity Kappa 62.9i : 6.5" 2-way for rear door

    JL Audio XD400/4

    Taco Tunes speaker mounts

    RAAM Audio 4-door kit

    Wish me luck.
