i wanted to stay away from subs too, not that i don't like them, but in my access cab there is not a lot of room, i mean, i could sacrafice some space for one, but it's not worth it to me.

i bought some sony speakers, nothing special, but a couple 6 1/2"s and a couple 6X9's and threw 'em in.... made a decent sound diff. i think i want to upgrade to a head unit that puts out more power. don't really want an expensive amp, but they are all 40W or 50W speakers and i want to throw them some more juice to make a little more advantage of my upgrade.

I am not 100% sure about the rear doors of a double cab, but the front doors of all models can take either 6 1/2 or 6 x 9. You'll need adapters either way though as there are no direct "drop-in" replacements.

I would think that the rear doors on a double cab might take 6 x 9 also, but definately 6 1/2.

I am running 4 Pioneer 6 1/2 3-ways in my access cab with the stock (non-JBL) 6 disc changer. ts-A1668 in the front doors, and ts-A1672 in the rear doors.

I think the sound is great out of these speakers with the stock radio. The write up is linked in my signature.

I have Polk Audio 6 1/2" speakers in my rear doors and 6x9s in the front using the ********* mounts. They sound better than stock but I still need to put an amp in to make them shine.

so there are no direct drop in swaps for the stock speakers. I have a double cab and would like to swap these out but I was hoping to get some that would just swap in without the TacoTune mounts.

i didn't use the taco tunes mounts.... the stock speakers are made of plastic, i cut out the cone and cut out the plastic rails that run from the oustide cone to the magnet, and used the existing outside of the speaker as a mount for the new ones.... sorry i didn't take pics of what i did, but if you dive into it, it's easy to figure out what i did.

if you go to crutchfield they have mounts that they send for free with what ever speakers you buy . If you put in your vehicle type they will let you know what fits or not . or you could do your own . I dont have the time to do it .

Is there any way to retain the steering wheel audio control if the head unit is swapped out?

So you can put 6x9's in the front door of an access cab? According to the Crutchfield site, the Infinity Kappas that I want will not fit. I suppose with the ********* mounts they will though.

Yep. With ********* mounts the front doors of all models can take either 6x9 or 6 1/2. Crutchfield seems to have just one set of adapters, as I suspect it is some kind of universal fit kind of deal, as it would be far too cost prohibitive for them to stock and give away a vehicle specific mount for all the speakers sizes that they offer.

Perhaps the mount they give could be modified to fit a 6x9, that I am not sure about.

Double Din Kenwood, 2 IDQ10's pushed by solo kicker sub. Focal components front and rear pushed by single Alpine, Capacitor, rearview camera, and still adding more.. Nexus gauge cluster in the worx (hard to find what i'm looking for).
Im running Focal 165 A1 Components in the front and rear, and I have 2 10'' subs. I first tried the Infinity kappas, they sit in my attic in the box they came in. I then tried Kicker components, sold those. I have been ecstatic with my Focal's. They're pushed by an Alpine 150watt RMS 4 channel amp, and my 2 subs are Image Dynamic Shallow 10's pushed by a Kicker 400.1 solo amp. I also have a Kenwood Double Din DNX7100 touchscreen headunit. You can run either 6x9's or 61/2's in the front, but only 6 1/2's in the rear. I purchased my speaker mounts from *********, because they had a bigger selection. I also bought my sub box from them and they recommended the subs, as a matter of fact I purchased the subs from them as well, since the box is made for them. Its not about bragging rights, it's about what suits you, and what you like. My pics are posted if you would like to see the setup behind my rearseats. Good luck with your choice.

Sidewinder...Google PAC-SWI for your steering wheel controller, however, its a P.I.A. to install.

i'm running two sets of 5.25 Focal components, front and rear. KP series up front and KF in the back. Two JL Audio 8w6's in a custom box made by my local shop...running three PPI Art Series amps...one for the fronts, one for the rears and one for the subs.

HU is an Alpine 9887 imprinted for my position in the car...factors in cab dimensions and acoustic properties of the cab. Sounds like i'm sitting with the band and can shake the mirrors if I want to.
