I walk out to my truck this morning and as usual, I do the walk around the truck and notice my gas door is open and the gas cap is just hangin'. Damn nut sucker syphoned about a quarter of my gas. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE THESE DAYS!

Looks like I'm gonna have to invest in a locking gas cap.

I roll with a locking gas cap. It boggles my mind that my 14k Matrix has a locking gas door and my 35k Tacoma doesn't. Nice work ToMoCo.

I don't know. When I got home on Friday I had about half a tank of gas left. Now, I'm a quarter less. I just hope they didn't f#*$ up anything while doing this.

The screen isn't made of anything very significant. Almost all vehicles have them, and they can be pierced quite easily with a semi stiff rubber hose.

Not so much to prevent this.. but to keep stuff out.. yea.. so goes the story.

    One thread is wrong...at least.

This or that. Not going to drop my tank to check.

Probably just the result of competitive benchmarking. If the F150 and Frontier lack locking gas doors, Toyota would see no "need" to put them on Tacos and Tundras. Whatever, a Stant or Fram cap is cheap enough.

people have had problems with aftermarket caps I've read. Constant cels.

Mean drilling, but I have seen a couple paranoid people with locks put on their taco gas doors. They are metal.

Its a pretty rare occasion and even with today's gas prices.. if they brought 2 cans and managed to fill em full you're looking at a 40 dollar loss max. Maybe 10 mins of time because you had to go to the gas station or pour in some of your lawnmower gas.

Sure you feel violated. Take a deep breath.

And what's with the debris screen? Real or not.

Newbee here. This has probably been beat to death, but what are the part numbers of either the Stant or other top quality locking gas cap.
    TIA.
Never mind. I searched and found the info. I should have done that first off.

BTW, I will properly introduce my self very soon. I just got the '06 Tacoma after the frame failed on my '96 T100.

Is the screen or flapper or whatever actually meant for anti-siphoning? I would think it's more for fuel retention in case of a rollover.

still doesn't matter if you get the locking cap or not, they will drill a hole in your gas tank if they really want the gas. especially on (lifted trucks = easy access) it sucks ass for sure to have this happen to you but the best way to keep this from happening is garage your truck, i know i know not everyone has a gargage and if your lifted, you can't get it in. unfortunetly this will happen to people all the time.....

Had issues in my neighborhood with this. Meth heads were stealing gas from everyone. My mother in laws highlander, and father in laws 1st gen Tundra both were un-obtainable through the flap so the cut the rubber gas fill hose. They didn't really know anything was off untill they met each other at the gas pump and thought it was odd...then super odd when they put more fuel on the ground under the car than into the car. I think it was $90 for the 2 rubber hoses in the end?

I like the flappers that keep shut untill you pull a lever from inside, like my wife's highlander has. I'd take a nip pinch for one of those. Would totally prefer that over a keyed gas cap.

I'm less concerned about gas theft than I am about some jackass putting something in my gas.

Same thing happened to me twice recently, although they put the cap back on, I think so I wouldn't notice so they could come back again and again. They took a quarter tank both times: that's roughly one five gallon gas can or two two gallon cans. I am going to get the locking gas cap. Note there are two for our model truck, with the caveat that some of our trucks have a variance in the size of the opening, just enough to make the engine light go on. So they say you have to try both caps and see which one doesn't trigger the check engine light. A bit of a pain in the ass, but means you cant just order it online, since they are non-returnable.

I think there are probably a lot of druggies in Mid City New Orleans where I live, and I am financing someone's fix with the free gas I am giving them. Pretty sad, actually. I bet he/she goes around hitting the vehicles with no locking gas door or locking gas cap.
