i have a 99 tacoma trd sr5 4x4 and i love it emmensely. the only qualm i have with the extrior is that the oem fender flares are scratched and the white fiberglass(?) is showing through. i would prefer to buy new ones, that is if i wasnt a starving college student! is there an easy way to paint the originals? or are there cheap ones out there on the market? im trying to build the truck on a budget and slowly am getting there.
    thank you for you help.

there are ~6 10mm bolts holding each one on. take those off and you can clean 'em and hit 'em with some flat black spray paint and they'll look good as new. this is one of the first things i did when I picked up my 2000. no issues after 1.5 years -- they still look great!

thanks! was there any specific brand of paint you used or should just any flat black primer work? also, did you have to sand them first?

    She's gone but not forgotten.
If you want to bulletproof them you can coat them with bedliner covering. Someone here did that a while back and really liked it, can't remember who though.

i cleaned them really well, but they didn't need any sanding in my case. i used a few coats of rustoleum flat black paint, no primer. pretty easy job.

Plasti dip spray works great too! Very durable and you can peel it off if you dont like it.
