What tweeters are recommended for a 2nd gen? In the upgrade threads I've seen the OEM tweeters have an oblong bracket which mounts to the door, all the aftermarket speakers I've found are round. Or am I just missing something?

I've also noticed in almost every install video it shows a cross over being added. Is this a requirement? How does the oem speaker work without it?

I've asked about the Subaru tweeters in the 3rd gen thread but no response so far.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
A crossover is always used in a component, coax type speaker.
Coils, chokes, inductors are frequency reactive resistors so to speak. They provide an increasing resistance as the frequency increases. These limit high frequencies going to the woofer.
Capacitors, do the same thing, exactly opposite. They get used for the tweeters. The signal is also 180° out of phase to what goes in.

Your tweeter selection should be dependent on the woofer you're mating it with - not the truck. Of course fit is a consideration, but you want a certain Fs & frequency response - then narrow the fit down.
