see everyone's saying burn but the thing is it was fine yesterday and now today its like this?
This was not there the other day when I washed it, and I only washed no detailing so no wax or anything just a quick wash to get the salt off. Wasn't there last night either but this morning I see this?

Only wax that was put on it was today after seeing that. I spot cleaned it, sprayed with one of those waterless car wash things and then a quick wipe. As soon as I did that I noticed it wasn't on the surface and it was the paint. Put some wax on it quickly just to protect it.

no buffing just wax on wax off.

So to go from perfectly fine to this either makes me think someone vandalized it (which I'm doubtful someone would just do one spot like this and in all the years I've lived here never had a problem) or it was something wrong with the paint and the rapid temperature change caused it. Like water got under it or something and then caused this.

I have a spot similar to that on my bedside about 6" under the TRD sticker. Why it does look like when you "burn" the clear coat with a buffer, the paint feels really soft in that area like the metal wasn't clean before being painted? I've seen another truck the same year with the same thing in a similar spot.
I feels like a solvent or something is eating away at the clear coat. I've waxed the crap out of it, but the clear coat is definitely fucked. Haven't looked into getting it fixed because i'm sure they will say it is something I've done.

yep, if it was a burn I'd expect to feel it, but it feels super smooth.

I'm thinking it was something with the paint prior to painting?

    SOOO for the update.
So called the closer dealer today they said go to where I bought it, didn't even want to look at it originally. So I went to Stouffville where I got it (about hour drive from where I live) luckily I was already half way there from where I was working. So hopefully this doesn't come back and bite me in the ass but anyways....
Went to Stoufville they looked at it, checked with a paint thickness gauge and everything, fully confirmed that this is some sort of defect. Service Manager saw it and everything and said yes they will warranty it. They have a 3rd party shop do the repairs though, they do not do it in house. I explained to them how coming to stoufville is drastically out of the way and makes it a lot more complicated since I need to leave the truck for 2-3 days. Explained to them how Scarborough Toyota told me to go straight to them. Service manager said he doesn't understand why as this is clearly a factory defect and is covered under warranty. He told me he understood the inconvenience going to them causes so he said if I want to go to Scarborough and see if they will warranty it as well.

So I left, the reason I hope this doesn't bite me in the ass is I didn't get anything in writing since if I did that would mean getting it done through them. So went to Scarborough right after and they looked at it too now. Scarborough has their own collision and body shop in house. Service manager was not in today but the collision department looked at it and the service foreman looked at it. The body shop/collision department will be doing the repair if its warrantied and he looked at it and completely agreed its a defect from factory. Said he cannot see why it won't be warrantied. His idea is that something was wrong with it in production and someone tried buffing it and repairing it then clear coated over it since you can feel its completely smooth. Did a paint depth test and concluded clear coat is over the spot as well. They took pictures, gave an estimate etc and will need to verify with the service manager that it can be done under warranty.

From collision he said it's under $500 which supposedly makes it a lot easier to warranty. If it is warrantied they will sand that portion of the fender, repaint and blend it and clear coat the whole thing. So hopefully everything is good to go, and they do a good job matching and painting.

Said they will contact me tomorrow once the service manager is in to confirm everything. So will update with final verdict as soon as I hear. If they end up saying no then guess I'll just need to deal with the pain in the ass of going to the farther dealer and get it done through them.

Glad to hear. If I were to take my best guess I'd say the fender was contaminated before painting at the factory, at the contamination started to eat away at the paint from the inside out.

Other thing I figure will be great that they are doing it, is that now I have a known issue with paint documented. So if it happens again in another spot will probably help with the process

    Word of advice.

If they are only painting the fender, the metallic flake is going to be off. I'm not guessing here, IT WILL BE OFF. It will stick out like a sore thumb in direct sunlight. When you go to inspect it, have them park it in direct sunlight, look at the door, then back at the fender multiple times. You should be able to see that one is not like the other.

I would fight to have it done right by blending it into the door/pillar and possibly the hood / front bumper. Even then, it likely won't be perfect.

I'm OCD though, so maybe it will look ok to you.

Well aware it won't come out perfect. From what the body shop guy said is he'll be blending. But when I got the call from Toyota that it was ok to do they said repaint. So I'll need to ask the body shop directly as it could just be them wording it wrong.

But even if it's slightly off in sunlight it's better than it is now. I know on my previous car that was the case but it was only after washing in direct sun that you could see it

Dealer thinks the paint was messed up in production and they tried fixing it but failed

It looks like exactly what they told you. Some Issue they tried to spot either after production or at the port, and it's failing.
The hood is a horizontal panel, they can get away without blending into it, and there's plenty of room to loose the blend in the fender so they won't need to go into the door.

Don't worry about what pharah said, you won't be able to notice it, and it will be fine

    nope.
Nothing was done to it. Only had the truck about a month and a half. It started out as a slight haze in that area that just kept getting worse to the point where the clear coat disappeared.

Mentioned above, dealer body shop department thinks it was a damage in the paint at factory, maybe a drip or something, that they tried buffing out and repairing then clear coat over it. But didn't stick and is now looking like that.
