Looks that way; why make something cheap and easy when you can make it WAY more expensive? Again, a scan tool with live data is likely to be your best friend, but it wouldn't hurt to do the basic checks here, could be something as simple as a pinched harness and abraded insulation that causes a fault when you turn a certain way, some crusty s*** in a connector, etc.

Thanks for this! So... when you say all grounds and connections and whatnot... does that mean pulling panels off and getting into all the wiring?

That's what it means. You will need the FSM wiring diagrams, a DVOM, and a good incandescent test light. There's nothing difficult (except sometimes accessing connectors and separating them), and a few videos on YouTube U. will give you most of the 'how to'. Essentially what you want to do is start at the solenoid and work backward to the ECU, ensuring that at each connector you have the correct voltage where it should be, and the ground is a good ground. It can be a slow process, but as long as you're methodical, it's not at all difficult.

Awesome, doesn't sound awful - just sounds like some time needed.

Would you think a bad ground would causes battery drain issues too?

Not usually, in fact just the opposite, but if you have a conductor with abraded insulation which is occasionally shorting to ground, that could very definitely cause both a sensor fault and a parasitic draw.

Hmmm I might be looking at wire problem than a ground then. Good to know!

The purple/white or "violet/white wire on the vent valve and vac pump. Tap into it on the connect and slice a new wire right into the same wire in the harness between the bed and truck body, the harness flexes and the wire breaks. Not allowing the function of the vent valve. To text the vent valve take the purple and white wire and apply ground to it.

The easiest thing to check are the vent/hose lines for cracks and splits. I had a Chrysler van that was giving me fits with the evap system. It wasn't until I disconnected and flipped over a vent hose that had a service port (for smoke) that I saw a huge crack where it went into the plastic port fitting. Once that hose was replaced I had no other issues.
