What seems to be the limitation with this ?
Is it possible to machine new hubs or modify existing hubs ?

Pardon me if I'm clueless, but aren't the stock hubs permanently locked already? I thought on the Tacoma the actuators were inboard on the front diff rather than out at the wheel hubs. So there'd me no point to doing manually locking hubs unless you changed the diff too.

Or am I remembering that wrong?

Can't be impossible as it has been done for Dodge Trucks, see http://spyntec.com/ for an example of what I am talking about. I put EMS units on my 2006 2500 Dodge. The units replace the unit bearings with bearings and axle strubs and works just like the old solid axle units with locking hube.

What you say is right but if the hub disconnects i.e via lockable hub your cv axle won't be spinning as your driving
