So Im about to order my shell. I was wondering if anyone here knows what those rubber pieces are called in the 2 corners of the bed close to the cab to keep water out. Also if those are installed by the canopy dealer or would I have to supply it. Thanks in advance

I’m sure the company you are ordering your cap should be able to order the correct one without measurements. With giving them the vin# of your Tacoma it should be easy for them.

Thanks. Do you also happen to know what the 2 rubber pieces on the corners by the cab that needs to be plugged when you get a canopy?

Not sure what plugs you are referring to? I’m sure if it’s a reputable company you are dealing with all should be good.

    Stock for now.. maybe
    ^ I'm with this person above. ^
Also should just have to let them know what year, paint code you want and if it's a short bed or long. If they cant figure it out from there then they aren't very experienced. Ask them where they will install the brake light wire. The answer should be 'we run it to the battery'. The order process should be simple. They ask year make model truck and paint code, what model shell you want, you tell them what options you want, and they take deposit (up to half the cost). I ordered mine over the phone in a few minutes. A few weeks after they call and install and you enjoy!
If you feel like they are inexperienced installing ask them if they have installed many on Tacomas and if they are aware of how to seal correctly and if they will use the bed tie down rails (to hold shell down) using t-nuts (maybe called something different) or regular camper shell clamps. They should have the hardware already for using t-nuts in rails.
    Good luck

Thanks for all the info. I think I am just being paranoid. I just know that there is suppose to be something there. Im about to put some serious money down. The place that I am getting my shell has some really great reviews and I think their pricing is pretty good as well I think.

Received another quote for a Leer 100 R today. Specs are for a 2020 Tacoma Access cab with top rails, carpeting, front slider and of course installation. This dealer is about 90 miles away but the price was $2200 out the door as opposed to the local dealer who quoted $2856. That's a significant difference that I would drive the distance for. My question is this...if I need service for any issues, will any Leer dealer honor the warranty or fix issues?? Or, will I have to drive the 90 miles to get problems resolved where I bought the shell? This might be a question for Leer but Leer might tell me what I want to hear where as there is lot's of real world experience here.

This is why I tried to shop local. I did have a problem when shell was installed. The hinged side window was not really gaped well when closed. I drove back and they tried to fix on site. Ended up ordering a new one and they installed one week later. But for that price.... I would consider. Show that local guy the lower estimate..... he might match

Just picked up a Leer 100R in burgundy. The clearcoat was peeling and back glass was removed. Paid $100. Have $150 in paint and supplies to make it White (base clear from NAPA) and ordered the window for $350.

Yea, I told the local guy over the phone that he was about $600 over the other dealer. He didn't believe me but I offered to share the email thread with him. Not sure how I'm going to run with this. After checking my map more carefully, the less expensive dealer is 125 miles away, not 90. I would be willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars over the lower quote to buy local but if the local guy doesn't want to budge, well $600 is $600 and will buy a lot of gasoline.

Got my leer 100xr for $300 after a few months of watching/waiting. Sometimes they go pretty cheap used because they’re big and awkward and the seller just wants it out of the way

After almost 7 weeks of waiting I picked up my cap yesterday. This thread was helpful when I was shopping so I thought I’d add my details.
Leer 100XR, removable front slider, dual windoors, headliner, remote lock, Thule rails. $2927 out the door in Woodland, Ca less than a mile from the Leer West plant.
The wait and communication were terrible, to the extent that I refused to let them do anything besides set the shell on the truck. This is the exact cap I wanted, but the Leer dealers around me that I spoke with are not people That I would like to do business with. I went to an ARE dealer in hopes of getting better service but no avail. One of the most dissatisfying experiences I’ve had in a while but I’ve got my cap now and that’s what matters.
Thanks to everyone who posts here, lots of helpful information.

Checked out another local cap dealer and got a quote for an ARE CX Classic for my 2020 Tacoma Access Cab. The cap with fold down front slider, standard side sliders, carpet, dual rope lights, roof tracks and installed for $2222.82 out the door. Seems like a pretty good deal based on the quotes I've gotten elsewhere. Grand dad and wife who started the business in 1968, their son and grand son are the only employees. I almost drove past the entrance as it looked like some ones home from the street but once I drove around back it looked more like a legitimate business. 20 to 30 ARE, LEER and RANCH caps on racks, a small office and shop. This is probably where I will spend my $$.

How do we get folks who post in this thread to give their friggin’ location!?!?
Buddy you just described my recent experience to a T and who knows we could be nextdoor neighbors! Or we could be on opposite coasts. We’ll never know...
