I have had zero luck finding a used shell for my 2nd gen. I’m going to have to drop a few grand for a new one. So painful...and it’s a short bed.

Out here in Western Washington, we have a place called SuperHawk Canopies. I just asked for a basic quote on Snugtops and Century toppers. Here is what they told me, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...
we have the snug top cab hi for 1759.00
    rebel 1999.00
    GB sport 2959.00
    includes:
    paint
    headliner (rebel, gb sport)
drop down front slider (n/c special) for cleaning between truck and canopy(some dealers charge extra for this)
single locking, self latching all glass rear door w/ inside lock (rebel, gb sport)
drip channel in rear door when open(rebel, gb sport)
    12 volt led light
    usb port box
installed with reusable rubber bottom seal and hidden style clamps
we also double the factory parts and leakage warranty to 2 years on all of our canopies

we also have a cab hi century for 1599.00 installed

Got my Leer 100XL topper on order and should be here in a few weeks. I've got to make a decision - are bed stiffeners needed or is it worth getting them? Is the weight of the topper enough to worry about? I don't plan on a RTT but may have a canoe up there every so often. Figure if I'm going to do them I should before the topper is on, so now would be the time! Are the bed sides really bad enough to need the stiffeners?

Anyone using them? Anyone not using them and noticing sides flexing with their topper?

    Stock for now.. maybe
I put some on only after the fact though. Ive got Yakima racks on top and regularly have kayaks and/or paddleboards on top. I decided to install stiffeners when I was going through some rough roads while trying to get to the river. It was slow going with lots of roots and rocks while truck was loaded down and I saw things flexing more than I was comfortable with. If you have a shell and stay on semi flat ground I'd say no to stiffeners but thats my opinion. I'm not the usual person though.. im actually out in the wilderness per say (whitewater rivers not float trips). If you go with bed stiffeners there is a wide range and may as well not go with the cheap Walmart ones

    Leer Camper,
    $300.00 used.

My Leer 180 was at a dealership in Middle Tn. Person who bought the truck from dealership did not want camper top with truck. I had been searching 5 years for one in Indigo Ink to match my Access. Finally found one the day after I priced a brand new Leer. New was going to be $2000+ (I had not solidified all the features I wanted yet).

    I'm a happy camper.

Sorry for a seemingly silly question..... will a cap for a 2nd gen fit a 3rd gen? What’s different if not? Access cab long box....

It might go on but it won't fit properly for sure. Apparently the sides on the 3rd gen are higher and maybe wider? May as well keepsearching for one that will fit properly. It seems like shells and trucks in the 90's and before were much easier to mix and match better than now. I got a used shell years ago for my 1995 Tacoma. I think it came off a Ford and before that something else. You could tell it wasn't made for the truck but worked just fine. Now I think there are just to many variations that make it harder to find one that wasn't made for your truck but still fit and stay dry

Also I think the 2nd Gens have a straight/flat tailgate and the 3rd Gens have a curved tailgate (helps with aerodynamics I think), so the back won't fit properly and the window wouldn't close or sit right.
