Which is ridiculous. There's no way I'm paying that much if I don't need to. I would absolutely love a brand new shiny shell, but I can't afford that, plus this is for my trail/camping truck and it'll see some abuse.

I have a Leer 180 on order for my truck. -- It's getting the free headliner and I am adding the sliding window for between the cab and topper. I don't know the exact numbers yet, but should be around 1550 (plus taxes) or so. This dealer in central Mo has been doing this business for at least 30 years , and is a true gentleman and all around great guy. Now for the sad part -- he is selling his business, and retiring in about a month or so. This is exactly why I went ahead and ordered mine now. He has helped me so much in the past , both with a metal topper on my 87 Dakota and a used glass topper I bought for my 99 and 02 F150. GREAT GUY!!
He installs for free. I'll try and remember to let you all know the final total

The final total came to $1640 for the base Leer 180 with free inside topper liner and I added the sliding window on the cab window.

Did you add the sliding window yourself?

No -- it came with the topper -- It was an extra $50.00. In retrospect -- I should have asked how much the removable slider would cost. I am still learning at 69+ yrs young!. Live and learn! The slider as I got it seems kind of useless, unless I can clean the glass surfaces someway by opening both windows?
Topper is nice otherwise -- and a great color match from Leer!

On some the whole front window flips down. Now THAT is handy!! A use I'm wanting for the sliding rear window is for camping. I'd love to have my dog in the cab and me in the bed but be able to be right there with him. Or maybe reach in the cab for a midnight beer!

I paid $400 for a used ARE topper. Unfortunately it doesn't match the truck. In checking the cost to paint it, it looks like it'll cost as much (or more) to paint it. As such I'm simply going retro 1980's with my two-tone truck.

I have an ARE V-series. Got it for $460, and the paint matches perfectly :broccoli:

A Leer (? model) for $50 off of CL

It was faded, so I sanded it and painted it matte black. The black looks alright on the truck (Lunar Mist). For $50 and a little elbow grease...I am not complaining.

This is probably the best strategy for finding a used shell. Set up an Autotrader search and filter the results by color. Then start scrolling.

I searched multiple states around CO almost everyday for several months looking for a Leer 122 or an ARE TW series. I never found a single one, so I ordered a Leer 122 w/ 50-50 sliding side windows (in place of the stock 4 windows), window screen protectors and a headliner for about $2100 out the door

I paid $1200 + tax for my brand new LEER Legend. The Legend is just like the 100R without the headliner. I wasn't about to pay an extra $350 for the 100R just to get the "free headliner". Love it.

Picked my ARE up last weekend for $280. Already has the roof rails, reinforced roof, brand new front window with slider and a new lock on the rear. It's not in perfect condition but for the price you can't beat it.
