What'd you pay for your shell?

Quoted 3600 for leer 100xr with windoors and roof rails and install. Decent price?

 

seems high. At least to me. I went with ARE because they're cheaper than leer and snugtop. no regrets

not yet. I was told snugtop is the best of the 3 but idk I just prefer the look of ARE. to each their own.

 

I paid $6800. Lockable windoors, only weighs 275 lbs, and has a built in tent that I can stand up in. 500lb roof weight capacity too. Multiple accessories able to be attached to all sides.

yeah it is. But it's pricey. It's like $600 bucks to swap the sliders to windoors. I found a leer top for $1000 that was the same color as my truck and everything on craigslist. So you could likely find the same deal or cheaper and swap to windoors and it'll be cheaper than buying a new one. I don't regret passing on the used leer top for 1k though, I like the look of my ARE and the extra headroom.

I found my first cap on craigslist for $100. Next weekend found another for $150. Upon arrival for the second cap, the guy had sold the roof rack so I bought it for $100. Then I turned around and sold the original cap for $200... So I paid -$100 for my cap.

 

lucky! I hear stories like this all the time but when I looked on cl no one wanted to go below 1000 for a topper that actually fit my truck. I figured if I'm going to pay that much anyway, might as well go all out and get the exact one I want with all the features I want.

 

I got quotes for a standard fiberglass shell back in Feb 22' they were all between 3k and 3200 for minimal options. they were 16-20 weeks out. So I ordered a SmartCap instead- $3750 and it was projected to be 5-6 months, turned into 8 but I firmly believe its a better product than any fiberglass unit.

 

For reference, both caps were Leer. First one had windoors but bare minimum options. Second one is windoors with sliding pane in the middle, roof rack and rails, and carpeted lining. I must have gotten lucky because I haven't seen any deals like that since then, and I was only browsing craiglist for less than two weeks before I found them.

i was quoted $5100 for Leer 100XQ level 3 (i think vented windoors and flip-down front slider) and roof tracks. ($4213 + tax, install, and freight)

not ready for that, but i can't find a used
shell in Timberland

 

Free! And you can see why too lol. It came off an early 90’s Nissan hardbody. Fit good enough what what I needed it for.

 

Just under $4,000 (including install) for a new ARE CX that I customized with a lot of options. Best purchase I’ve made for the truck and 100% worth the price.

 

I ordered a Brand new ARE MX mid rise with side doors $3600. It’s up for sale if anybody is nearby to Albuquerque. I ended up needing to trade my truck in and haven’t installed it yet and it’s still at the dealer. I paid $3600 for it it has the sliding glass up front, carpet, side locking opening doors and it’s the mid rise option. I know I’m going to take a loss on it so I figure I would see if anybody wants it and wants to make me an offer. It includes the install and seals by the dealer.

 

Picked up a lightly used Protops High 100 for $1600; has a few add-ons. Got it from a new/used dealer in N. California.

 

$400 in 2018 used, has a few minor issues, I would consider carpeted inside (for condensation) and windoors (for blind spot visibility and access) essentials which did not seem too important when I first started shopping around.




Roof rack on the ladder rack, would consider trading for a high top but I'm happy with it
