Does $4,600 sound like a reasonable quote for a new cap built with this list? Price is post-discount, pre-tax, and apparently pre-tri-coat paint that I didn't realize my Barcelona Red truck has.

ARE CX HD for Long Bed 2022 Tacoma
Sliding front window, vented side windoors
    Double-handle rear door
Double interior LEDs w/prop switch (I could do without this, just getting the quote w/ all bells and whistles)
    Interior clothes rod
    HD series roof rack

I'm happy to cut down on the bells and whistles, but I'd really like the windoors and some sort of roof rack, if not the HD. Just seemed like an awfully steep quote, even in today's market.

Edit: then again, after looking at the post right before this one, I guess it isn't that steep. Still seems like a very big investment for what it is.

I paid 600, the paint was rough but it was the wrong color and I was gonna paint it anyway. It had interior carpet, dog screens, tip down front slider, and thule roof rack I had a friend of a friend color match paint it for 600 so I'm in it for 1200. I'm still gonna do a new canopy seal. 20230802_132856.jpg

Sold my ARE that I bought white, color matched and build a rack for $1400. A few months of missing it found this Leer with carpet, Thule rack and rails and sliding back glass for $700. Need to find a new lock and build another rack out for it. Luckily I still have the files

Longbed Leer 180 with all the things. I had a lead on a used one much cheaper, but it sold before I could get there and I’d have had to add windoors and some other stuff to it anyway. It’ll be good camping weather by the time this one gets here and I didn’t want to miss a whole camping season looking for another used deal so I pulled the trigger on a new one. My kid left for college in my Cruiser and it just feels wrong to have a truck I can’t sleep in at the moment.

I’m considering getting a bed cap but, want to ask for feedback from anyone who had put one on their truck but, ended up taking it off. What was your disappointment or decision to take off based on?

it seems it is not unusual that folks dislike these things after putting them on their trucks. That concerns me…maybe I haven’t thought through how I would use/benefit from a cap.

    Appreciate any responses.

that's worthy of it's own thread.

make one with the title you're looking for.

Like "sold your cap and have no regrets" or something like that. otherwise, you're expecting responses from people who are in the theead related to how much they paid. apples and oranges.

I think one of the main reason people take them off is they get sick of the "old man" look. Could be that they get tired of not being able to use there truck for house chores.

Hey I resemble that remark. My chores require me to have a shell not an open bed.

Paid $1800 cash in Portland, OR for a 2017 manufactured Leer 100XR, MGM longbed, carpet headliner, removal front slider window, pet screens. Basic, but after a lot of inspection is in mint condition, literally no wear or damage, which was shocking. Came with two keys. After striking out constantly on FB marketplace and CL and not wanting to pay $3000+ for a new one, I perused autotrader and set my parameters for my truck details. Found it on a local used lot, and called them up and offered them cash on the spot for it. They immediately accepted, and after a short drive, I feel like I got a decent deal. If you are having a hard time finding a good used canopy, maybe consider this route. Just make sure you bring cash. Cash is king. Obviously no warranty, but that was a decision I made for myself. ‍♂️. IMG_4140.jpg IMG_4141.jpg

Just picked up a new snugtop cab-hi for my 2023 TRD OR DCSB. Out the door with install was $2,950.

    Options:
Pet screens, fold down front window, rail install, wired in interior dome light, and it came with a liner.

Just saw this sticky so I'll post it here too if it helps someone compare new pricing.

Leer 100XR for a 3rd Gen long bed w/ fold-down front sliding window, carpeted headliner, bed light, locking, and the sliding side windows.

    Paid $2,800 + tax/install in 2022.

I tried to workout a trade with the same LEER dealer recently for a hard tonneau cover. He had no need for it in his inventory but told me the same shell has gone up to $3,300 since I bought it with an 8 week wait. (Las Vegas, NV area.)

Update: I just sold my used (like-new) LEER 100XR today for $1,600.00.

    Purchased for $2,800.00 in 2022.
    Dealer claims it's $3,300.00 in 2024.

Mine was garage parked and perfect. Hurt to let it go for $1,600.00, but I wanted out of it and waited a week for offers after listing it for $2,000.00.

Most offered me around $1,500.00 and I took the $1,600.00.

It's hard to find many buyers for the 6FT bed and I didn't want to wait forever for THE buyer to come along.

Just bought a used ARE MX for $1400. It's in great shape. I couldn't see myself dumping close to $4k for a new one with all the bells and whistles. Been searching for months and this one popped up so I jumped on it. Caps have gotten quite ridiculous cost-wise. I ordered a windoor and a new lock at my local ARE dealer for $600. That said, $2k total for this is still decent, but ouch...
