Picked up a used Leer 100R for 1k on FB marketplace. Still looking for a high top cap for better camping, but this will do for
    now.

As someone who currently has a Leer but wishes he had gotten an ARE (strictly from an aesthetic standpoint), I'm curious why you sold your ARE for a Leer?

I recently purchased the same shell--it's incredible how much the prices have jumped in 1yr's time though. How do you like yours after a year of owning it? Side note, I had a little bit of buyer's remorse when I saw some ARE CX Classics that have a much more flush look to them (our Leer 100XRs have this slightly oversized look to them with how much they sit over the bed--maybe I'm crazy).

Wow. It must be a DC/Maryland/Virginia thing, or I got ripped off, but I paid roughly $5k for the exact same shell, but with windoors......

I've read a lot about poor fitment with ARE caps. Common thing I've seen is the sides bow outwards and/or upwards, causing gaps.

I recently purchased a LEER 100XR with the black Linex coating for $1100 on FB marketplace. Was looking for windoors and roof rails but couldn't find anything local. Can add rails easy enough, not sure about windoors.

Leer is much better built imo, it has its down Tslot spots for clamping the shell and covers the bed rails down the side.

I searched the windoors and see them quoted for around $250 - $400 each side.

$5K seems steep. If I bought the same shell with windoors, taxes, and paid for install here it would land around $4,250.00 out the door.

From my understanding, they're solely produced in Mexico now after some recent US plant closures. Maybe cross-country shipping costs mixed with some supply and demand?

mine was about $2400 in 2015 or so. Sold it for $1700 with the prinsu rack I added on it. Leer 100XL i think carpeted, removable window, fresh struts etc. I looked for a used one forever but couldn't find one.

Got a Ranch Skyline. Not as well known of a company but the Skyline is their mid rise shell and it looked good.

shell options: carpeted headliner, vented Windoors on both sides, sliding and removable front window, color match, Thule tracks installed.

after tax and install it came out to $3600. Price wise beat Leer and ARE by about $800 and beat Snugtop quotes by $1400. I will post pics and a review once I get it but with that much of a price difference I had to pull the trigger. Hard to find pics of the Ranch Skyline though, especially on Tacomas.

Dude, I love it. Kinda mad I went over 20 years without having one. I think the truck looks better without it for sure, but the functionality is amazing.

Hunt on CL might take awhile ...but will be worth it ... $950 ARE with sliding windoors ..you may have to buy some new locks or gas struts but these can be found on Amazon or repaired at a dealer

Their midrise camper shell. OTD after taxes and install was $3600. The quotes I was getting for ARE MX and Leer 180 were $4200 before taxes and install. Snugtop hi-liner was even more. Happy with it so far and has all the same stuff I would have gotten on the other brands.

ARE V series for $2500 new. Got lucky and found one in stock locally. Just wanted something basic and really like the two-tone look.

Used ARE V series I just picked up last weekend. Not a perfect color match but close enough. $1850, it has the carpeted interior, with Yakima locking racks on top. I am quite happy! FEFCF494-61E6-460A-9DF1-96CBD81E92B9.jpg 19B7D3BA-0D76-4E79-857B-40874BC2CB6C.jpg

What'd you use to sell? I'm trying to sell my 100xr and dealing with Craigslist people is awful.

Just posted it up on TW. Shell and Prinsu it was a fair deal. If it’s just a shell you just need to find the right buyer.
