Mine has done it once. Display went blank, none of the control buttons would work. When I shut off the truck and restarted it was OK again. No steering wheel controls on mine.

Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
I doubt it was cut, It's a mounting plate for the radio.

Yeah when I got my 06' brand new, my radio did not pick up any reception. They installed a new one a week later and no problems since.;)

Intermittently the volume knob fails and the station will change. I thought I was going crazy or my dog bumped it at first. It’s happened about a dozen times in two months. I'll bring it up to my dealer. I'm also working on the TSB issue so I'll have plenty of contact in the next couple days.

BTW, I had an 06 Tacoma (TRD-AC) and had "NO" issues until some punk rear-ended me going about 40mph. Texting I think. You should have seen that Dodge! Totally smashed. It ended up my frame was bent and they totaled the truck so I ran out a picked up an 09. I'm so surprised.....suspension TSB, mushy brakes, and now the radio. Oh, and it didn't get delivered with the standard compass header like it should have. The dealer (and sales rep) are great so I had no problem getting help so far but I'm not used to going through this with Toyota or Honda products.

Great forum! I enjoy checking it out!

    No steering wheel control here...

Volume control stopped responding on mine as well. With no hassles the dealer ordered a new unit that took about a week to receive.
Called me upon arrival, telling me to come in at my convenience to have it replaced. Waited about 40 minutes and I was on my way...

The problem that I am having is that when I listen to a CD or my Ipod through my radio, it sounds like my speakers are blown. Does not act that way with the radio though. The dealer is fixing it right now. They said it was a faulty amplifier. Its covered under warranty

Me too! '09 DC sport. 2 months old now. volume knob has been fine but the tuning knob fails sometimes and the station changes by 0.2 randomly. (Like 103.5 to 103.7). Haven't had the problem since the weather has gotten a little warmer. I'll see what the dealer has to say at my first oil change.

No I did not cut it. That is a new face that comes with the radio from Crutchfield. I am not that brave to to cut anything. The new face is not the exact same color as the rest. My wife said she did not notice the difference until I pointed it out.

My volume knob doesn't respond most of the time now too. I make sure I don't turn off the truck when it's turned up loud in case it stays there the next time. I'm going to call the dealer and see if they will order a radio without me visiting them to confirm the problem since I live about 30 miles from the nearest dealer. I don't have steering wheel controls, so it's pretty annoying when you can't control the volume at all.

I have the same problem. I have a 09 and as you put it I bitch slapped the knob and drove my hand right onto the knob. I heard a click and bam she works great now. I got the truck 30 Jan and this happened after 2 weeks. I have no steering wheel controls so if it happens again I will just rip it out and put an aftermarket install. It sounds like there are far too many problems with the radios. I can get an install with Sirrus for 300. So that next bright light going across the sky will be my radio knob

Mine is doing the same thing. I took the truck to the dealership and told them about the problem. The guy at the counter said that they have a bunch of complaints about it and Toyota is just replacing them. He told me they are made by Panasonic. He has ordered one will be in place by next week

I took my 09 DC to the dealer today for it's first service so I could ask about the too common radio issue, as well as a few other things, while the oil change was being done. The service rep I talked to said he'd order me a new radio on the spot without even looking at the truck. All he needed was to get the number off of the radio to make sure he ordered the correct one.

It seems like the volume of complaints is large enough that the problem is quite well known, accepted, and fixed without much hassle. My only inconvenience will be having to wait while it's order, then waiting while it's installed.

If anyone local is having issues with their dealer, I'm in Houston, TX and went to Sterling McCall Toyota.

I have a similar problem with my '09 Reg Cab 2WD. The volume will be frozen on the setting it was on when I shut the truck off. The two finger tap near the CD slot will free the volume up. By the way the truck was bought in February and has just under 1,500 miles.

My 09 Access has the same problem - volume knob won't work, but steering wheel controls will. I thought it was just me. I'm going to schedule a check-up with the dealer and I'll add this to the list.
