I've never been. I'm from NJ. I fish, I'm far right, I own guns, etc. My perception of Texas is that it's awesome and there's cowboys everywhere. My wife and I want to get out of NJ due to some issues here (taxes, etc). She tells me Texas is turning into another NJ. Is it the awesome truck and gun loving state I see it as or is it turning?

It's a great state, lived there close to 30 years. Austin is blue. They moved from CA to Colorado to Tx. Plenty of great places to fish, hunt.

It's even hotter there in the summer than it is here. Hope that helps

Come on down, Texas is great. Lived here all my 36 years. No state taxes and no “10 round magazines” here sir. I don’t do too much fishing but I hear it’s good.

The funny thing about Texas is we are that way but also not - we’re not randomly firing revolvers in the air because we feel like it lol. It’s not the old west. Most out of state ppl that move here I meet love it. My last boss moved here from Cali and he liked it. Depending where u move, depends on you’re experience as well. I’m from Houston, Hispanic, in my early 30s and an artist. Ideally, Austin is probably more the place for me, but I’m comfortable too in The H. Austin is a little more liberal than most places and if you’re a racist pos, you probably won’t like HTOWN lol. My Latino peeps are heavy here and even I’ve been robbed at gun point by them lol. I know a lot of ppl like Houston, but it’s packed as hell here. Still, we have pretty sweet places to eat and chill out, our beaches are not as great as say south padre, but we accept it. Most neighborhoods I’ve lived in have chill neighbors...never really had the cops called on me for a party and I’ve never called the cops on anyone else. Some areas allow fire works the further out of the city you get. Those places don’t gaf if you just start blasting your guns lol. We definitely are more affordable. I was in NY for work for a month and I hated it. The city was cool but expensive as hell. We’re on the cheaper side here...more affordable.

Depends on which part of Texas. It's becoming purple overall. Cities lean bluish, boonies are reddish. Austin ain't as blue as you've heard - we're gerrymandered all to hell.

We don't have state income tax, but sales and property taxes are BRUTAL. Prices of land and homes are skyrocketing. Every year since I moved back in 2001 has been hotter and hotter. And my taxes keep going up because my land values keep increasing despite the value of my home.

Food is fantastic. FANTASTIC. Whatever you want, we have it.

Distance in Texas is measured in hours, not miles. You get used to it.

Vehicle registration is reasonable. Not at all like some states where you pay a % of value every year. The most I've paid for annual registration is $82.

If you're "far right" like you say then you're probably better off in the panhandle or in the eastern pineywoods outside of larger cities. Dallas, Austin, Houston, and Austin aren't having "it" anymore. Saying anything else would violate the CoC.

In all honesty, it depends on what your income level is, availability of jobs that you qualify for, and your tolerance for hot and oppressively muggy summers.

Don't forget about traffic in the major cities: it doesn't exist. Nope, no sir.

    Not at all.

Not lately with everything closed. I breeze on through everywhere I go.

    When this is over, though...oof.

When people were taking this at least somewhat seriously, the traffic died down. Now though, it's picked right back up.

My wife and I are considering moving to Houston, Rosenberg specifically. How's the area? Safe? I saw property taxes are crazy high, but I figure it evens out considering there is no state income tax. The house prices in Michigan are absurd right now.

Rosenberg is like the suburbs buddy. Homes are newer so prop taxes def gonna be higher. But why Rosenberg in particular? That’s still a good 30 mins from Houston proper

I like the suburbs, I want to be close to rural but still close to everything. A friend suggested Rosenberg. I'm open to anything. I hear San Antonio is nice, but I like the Gulf. Parents are from New Orleans.

I don't know what that really means. I just don't want to leave NJ to move to a more hot NJ haha.

Weather forecast for tomorrow in the San Antonio area

100, lower humidity compared to what we have had. Not uncommon for this time of year but at the same time you can have a 75 degree day on Xmas and be bitterly cold the next during that time of year. Winter really only last about 2.5 months and it starts to warm up again, may be slightly different as you live further north.

Military sent me here in 94, never left.
