What's the difference between an H10/9145 and a HB3/9005 bulb?

I wanted to put a bulb that's a little more white in my fogs to replace the stock halogens after upgrading my headlights to HIDs, but don't really want to spend the money on HIDs at the moment. The auto parts store didn't have anything in the 9145 bulbs, but they did have some 9005 bulbs that are a 4000k halogen. I didn't have any trouble getting them into the housings. They're 65 watt bulbs, and the tips aren't covered. They're definitely brighter than the stock bulbs, but I'm wondering if they're going to be too much for on road use?
