6 inch lift typically requires a drop bracket therefore lowering you ground clearance despite the so called "lift".

I'm a big fan of stacking rocks with my 32's. Really, it's more about putting rocks into holes dug out by 35's.

Here’s the thing about going with “more”. You’re gonna sacrifice towing, fuel economy, and eventually the ride. Not to mention your probably gonna need gears to get it back to normal RPMs on the highway. I’d start with wheels and some good 265/75/16 and you’ll be more than happy with the off-road capability.

The old 1979 thru 1983 Toyota Hilux looked awesome with 38" or 40" tires , anything smaller than those size tires didn't look right !!!

I have done some seriously insane off roading with 33s. Yes you get a slightly more ground clearance but I have not seen a huge difference from 33s to 35s. 35s are still better obviously. Once you start looking at 37s... not that's where it gets real.

Also you sound like a newb so I wouldn't jump into 35s right off the bat. Minor suspension lift and stronger armor does wonders.

I love this forum....... If anyone is seriously looking at this thread, go watch some of the more recent videos from 4wd Action in OZ. Graham does most everything that Shaun does and Graham is on 265s and Shaun is on 35s, the times when Graham cannot do what Shaun does it is because of ground clearance... "35s entered the chat" Also, go look at most of @Spoonman threads to see what he was able to get through with pretty modest tire sizes, before leveling up. Tire placement on the trail can get you a long damn way down the road.

255/85r16 is the golden ratio but there is only like 2 tires to choose from. I have no idea why?! It is literally the perfect size for our Toyota trucks.

The choices in that size are plenty imo. unless you want some dinky a/t or road tire in that size.

A factor I consider is - Can you get a samesize spare in the stock spare tire carrier?

I'd give the win to the 4runner solely for the fact it doesn't sound like a fucking rusty storage container sliding down a boat ramp.

You dont need em. Just look at what happened to Max Powell, his axles are always breaking. The reason some people get them is because 16mpgs is too many and they wanna go down to 10mpg.

I have 35s on a 4inch with stock bumper and just took out the inner plastic in the fender. I used to have 33s but the 35s look 10x better. and yes, girls agree

This made me realize something else.

If you go with 35's and plan to take the truck off pavement, it also gives you an excuse to get a snorkel. 35's = no fender liners = open air intake to suck up dirt, debris, water etc.
