I figured I would just add my two cents in. Let gm and all the other companies TRY to compete with the Tacoma. And yes they are coming out with a diesel engine for the Colorado which is probably going to take years to perfect and GMs record will back that up. I'm hoping that what comes from this is that Toyota will bring their already successful diesel engine to america and im sure I'm not the only one thinking that. So bring on the compition.

That bed is big enough for a Teryx.

I live in Houston tx. I drive 350 miles a day for my job and I never seen one. I've seen land cruisers but nothing like that.

Import the Hilux with Tacoma badging and call it a re-design. Job done.

A truck is a truck. It has a bed, a cab, an engine, a transmission, steering and axles. Don't know why peeps keep asking for a redesign.

Only because "Land Cruiser" is a premium name.
Overseas, there is no Tundra/Sequoia. If you want a truck, it's the LC or a Hino.

I don't blame him, those things live on the other side of the world.
The price is very scary, the cost of the single cab work truck converted from Australian dollars to the USD is around $52,790.

They wouldn't sell over here at that lol. I would rather go buy a nice plush brand new Cummins for that kind of money.

That wouldn't work, the Hilux is too utilitarian for the average American. It isn't nearly cushy enough for the American population.

    I spent $53k on my '06 2500HD Duramax.

    The market is there.

That is the price for the very base model with no where near the amount of comfort or gadgets trucks on the market here offer. Plus it "only" makes around 480 lb ft of torque. The new Cummins and Duramax engines push out insanely high numbers over 800

It would never survive in this market

Everything in Australia costs more. It wouldn't be nearly as much if it was sold here.

More than likely the price would be less for the American market , similar to how the Tacoma is $8K more in Canada than the US for the same model truck

I figured as much but there is no way of telling what it would go for over here. I was just saying if it kept that price tag.

Also I sure hope the average salary in Canada is higher than here to offset that cost!

Well I've been considering moving to Australia, and sadly I can't take the Taco with me. So looking into the Hilux, 4x4 DC manual 4.0L, it would cost me about $55K AU, which is roughly $50k USD.

It would be nice to compare the price of the Aussie LandCruiser SUV with the US LC, but the US 2014 LC starts at around $79k.
Of course, it's a luxury item and really should be sold under the Lexus badge, as it has more in common with the LX570 than it does with a "working" SUV.

What's the cost of an Aussie HiLux?
It's actually lower, and their tax rate is higher.
