That may be true, and in my own defense if you look in my original snarky post, I *did* say "I think" to start with.

But, despite the fact that the pictured Tip Gear Hilux gave me half a chub, I spoke too soon and without checking my facts, and deserve the scorn. Thus, I wear the scarlet letter.

    ...

So we should be yellin' at the fucking FEDS for not letting us have a Hilux Diesel!

We used to have the Hilux here. But us American's wanted a truck for comfort, not work. "Compared with the Hilux, the Tacoma is engineered with a greater priority on ride quality, handling, comfort, and safety over ruggedness and payload capacity."

I don't know about that far south, but Mexico has the VW Amarok.

That is a Hilux that has been custom built by Arctic Trucks.

Toyota doesn't build them like that.

When I priced them the F150 was 25-30% more. We are talking $6K+ more. I definitely would have considered a different truck if there were any remotely close in price.

Would I pay 5 or 10% more for the F150 with equal configuration? Maybe, maybe not. The F150 is probably too big for my garage, for one thing.

Now, would I pay equal money for an unproven Colorado vs. Tacoma. No way. That is their big problem here.

Are they going to come in at a competitive price?

Unmistakenly a rip off of the 2nd Gen yotas looks-wise. Which isn't really a bad thing I guess. That said I have had many GMs any have never had the reliability issues you guys are talking about. When I'm ready for a new truck I'll give it a look.

Yall are nuts. I have a Taco obviously but i love the new colorado. Dont gotta be hatin just cause its GM. They make quality vehicles.. its not ford for christs sake. I wish toyota would make a deisel tacoma. I think they will eventually go in that direction. This truck looks great!

I think this is exactly right. The tacoma is still selling strong and they haven't had to do anything to it. This truck is a complete and total investment return for them at this point.

It was mentioned by a Toyota spokesperson regarding Tundra engines that, due to 2017 fuel economy and emissions regs, any engine designed to pre-2017 regs won't be viable after 2017, yet any engine designed for post-2017 regs won't be competitive (power output, cost) with today's engines. It may be the same scenario with Tacoma engines.

I just hope we don't see a power reduction with the next-gen Tacoma, like what happened with the RAV4, Subaru Impreza, Mazda CX-5, etc. All the damn hybrids Toyota sells should hopefully provide enough offset so Toyota won't have to neuter the trucks to meet CAFE limits.

I have to disagree with that a little. Complacency is the biggest risk to downfall. you get on top, see the sky, but then sit on top thinking you are the king, doing nothing different. Eventually someone will knock the mountain out from under you if you don't pay attention.

If you REALLY look at things, we at TW are a minority. We are just a tiny sample of the people who buy the Tacoma. Others may not see things the same way. And some will just jump ship because there are hundreds of thousands of people out there that are looking for the "next new thing" regardless of who makes it. The SMART move for Toyota would be to pay attention to what the public is asking for, and then provide it. GM was sitting on top of the world in the early 80s. They settled in being all complacent. Look what happened to them.

Yup, I actually think it looks pretty awkward. Most small truck DCs do... I'd prefer a regular cab but you can't get them in Spruce Mica or with a V6... so Access Cab it is

Yup, same sentiments. I had a 2000 Blazer and its biggest fault was that after 13 years on Michigan roads it started to rust through the rocker panel right in front of the rear tire. Clearly a design flaw with those because it's been seen on all S-10s of that body style. No engine issues and the only driveline problems were things I did because I was a dumbass, cranked up the torsion bars 2" and tried to jump it at Silver Lake... Seriously not a bad vehicle at all though

The front bumper fog-lights recess, black plastic middle of the bumper and the rear door "ramp" to the window as you get to the end of the door are obviously Toyota design cues that they straight up ripped off.

It might be hard for 2011 or old guys to see the similarities but after looking at both quite a bit they definitely have a lot in common in subtle cues.

I really wish they'd paint the black plastic on the chevy near the doors though. The slanted back of the cab to the bed looks goofy too. I would like to see that be a straight chop like the Taco...

Now the Canyon, that one looks pretty interesting. Clearly a little Sierra, but I don't think that's a bad thing from a styling standpoint. This one looks tough! Just gott get rid of that stupid plastic piece at the bottom of the bumper.... makes it look so low to the ground.
